Begs the question, how badly do our players want to get out of this league ? Do they want it is as badly as our [remaining] supporters do? We are about to find out.
A loanee won't have the same motivation to fight for promotion, since it doesn't affect what division they'll be playing in next season. Stating the obvious, and it seems to have been borne out by the performance of our front three last night. Maybe the same applies to Konsa. I expect major changes for Saturday.
I would put Da Silva left side of midfield, Ajose and Magennis up top. Reeves to play behind the front two. Play Dijksteel at right back instead of Konsa. Tell the players to go for it. We are in the last chance Saloon, we need to play without fear.
The away fans were alongside Djiksteel in the first half at Bristol Rovers, and boy did he struggle. He was given a constant stream of advice and expletives by Bauer and Pearce. I like him as a player, but throwing him in too soon won’t do him or us any favours.
What choice do we have apart from Konsa. Who by all accounts was more interested in pulling up his socks than playing. What we are lacking in this team are strong characters. This set of players get bullied too easily. What we need for next season, in this division, are a few more over my dead body hard nuts. Who won't wilt at the first signs of bullying and will bully back. I would get rid of Solly, Lennon, Kashi, all the loan signings apart from Amos. Sell Konsa to Everton, release Vetokele. Use the money on wages and Konsa fee, to get in a decent striker and a midfielder. Trawl the free transfer market for some bargains.
Agreed. Don’t forget Charlton pay very good wages by L1 standards. And it’s not “only one defeat under Bowyer”. It’s 12 years of almost unparalleled failure.
We had Ricky Holmes. He used to get battered black and blue every game, almost always bounced straight back. He was not a perfect player but he had so much heart before he became disillusioned.
