Weather dreadful in Bridgend a Brava again today. Porthcawl Parkrun cancelled yesterday as the lower promenade where we start and finish was flooded.

So, I went to Maesteg-by-the-Sea. Just as wet as Porthcawl but no risk of getting washed away by the tide.

Hey Brizzo - did you get your nuts off?
Sorry Sparks, very rude of me not to respond to such a query...

I did indeed get them off the other day in between other tasks that needed more urgent attention. Bought what I thought was a straightforward replacement siphon but alas, the body of it is just a few mm longer than the old one, so it was a bit of a wedge to get it into the cistern.
Tightened it all up, popped it all back together, turned the water back on, only for it to start leaking from all possible places.... toilet is currently back in bits awaiting another hour for me to have spare to get my nuts tightened up everywhere before I risk getting all wet and spurty again...

Worst case scenarios is I have to go find another model of siphon that is slightly smaller then the new one.. it was only £12 odd all told (with additional new fixing kit) so no major worries apart from the time pressures to get it fixes before the Brizzle in-laws come around on Christmas Day - the old fella needs the downstairs loo to be in operation to save him trekking upstairs all the time.

No probs Brizzo.

Get an adjustable syphon so you can vary the height if that's the problem you have. You've probably got an old fixed height Dudley syphon in your cistern, and they were produced in various heights to suit the cistern manufacturer.

Amazon do variable height syphons that give you about 2" adjustable height tolerance - they're less than 15 quid and delivered to your door next day if you're on Prime. Have a look on Amazon under the PlumbEZ brand - if you need a new doughnut and/or wingnuts, they're on there as well and cheap.

Sadly the height isn't an issue, but the width/length of all things.... Literally it's about 3-4 mm longer than the old one so is wedged against the side of the cistern.
Will try it again (probably Wednesday now given my appointment at the CCS tomorrow) and if it's still buggered then I'll take a look at your recommendations <cheers>
