Just seeing on the news and on Facebook the flooding caused by the storm.
Pontypridd town centre under water and the street just off the old bridge with houses underwater.
Flooding in Porth, and a landslide on the Bwlch road which could have been far worse for the driver of one car.
Puts our frivolities on here in perspective.

Assuming that's Sion Street in Ponty that floods every few years. It is only a few feet above the river. The poor people there can't have insurance against flooding.

Why the council can't out in proper flood prevention measures I don't know.

I worked in Barclays in Ponty in 1980 (I think it was) when the Taff flooded most of Ynysangharad Park. Our basement flooded within a foot or so of the ground floor. We watched from the manager's office window when the Taff collapsed our external back wall.

A lot of Canton, Riverside, Grangetown and Pontcana also flooded.

Water and fire are pretty irresistible when they get going.

Bad, bad weather - much worse for some than me on a natural gradient. Pretty secure here but feel desperately for others in vulnerable locations.

Deluges run down Clevis hill past the Jolly Sailor and Ancient Briton pubs. What the drains can't take falls away down Beach road onto Newton Green.

As you say Bluey - the 2 opposites fire and water are more often than not beyond our control and should be treated as such with huge respect.

Mrs Remote saw that a pub we occasionally visit near our small holding had Jeremy Clarkson's Hawkstone on tap. Not only that, she had a voucher for 30% off main courses. Not sure what was the most compelling, but we decided a visit was in order.

I'm not usually a lager drinker, but I thought I'd give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised. It reminded me of some of the brews I've had in Austria. Quite light and nutty.
Wasn't so impressed when I went to pay. £6.80 a pint.
On the flip side, they had a sirloin on the menu, which, we were informed, was half price. So, half price sirloin, then 30% off for the voucher. Turns out, the steak was cheaper that the beer.

I was going to holyhead, but at 28mph I didn't get there in time. Then they said Dover. No chance. They need to give me more warning.<doh>

I could do with taking it through some deep water to give it a clean.
I did have all 4 wheels in our club trout fishery a couple months ago.

It is very serious when farmers start protesting. They don't have a lot of free time with animals to feed and all the other things to be doing.

Very sad to hear of the passing of snooker great Terry Griffiths.

Aged 77 he had suffered with dementia for a number of years.

RIP Terry. Thanks for some great memories.

Just realised my last word was a very inappropriate thing to say in the circumstances. Very sorry.

As I've previously mentioned, my mother has been living with us for about a year because of health issues.
An aunty has been staying with a cousin for a week.
The two sister-in-laws haven't seen each other for over 4 years. They were / are very close.

Despite us living over 100 miles apart, my cousin suggested us meeting up somewhere in the middle, so today we met up for lunch.

Marstons slapping 10p on a pint in their pubs citing tax hikes.

No mention of hiking their profits. <whistle>

The day after the shortest day, and there are daffs flowering in Cheshire.
This spot does seem to have its own micro-climate and always has early daffs, but I don't remember them before Christmas.

I knew Terry personally through the Carms' Snooker league and I played against him a couple of times (If respotting the coloured balls for him can be classed as playing against?) and I was also coached on the green baize by him in my teens. His Dad Martin was also quite popular in the local Mackworth snooker hall and we shared a chat with a cigarette and a cuppa many times whilst watching local future world champions. Both Terry's sons were very good footballers (and low handicap snooker players - semi pro) playing for Burry Port Suburbs in the Carms' premier league and then Welsh league after dominating our prem' league for years. As a goalkeeper I have very few happy memories playing against them. One is now a pro golfer coaching at the local links golf club,
Terry had moved from his very large house in Burry Port to a small flat at the end of my street during his illness, the flat was also in the shadow of the Terry Griffiths Snooker Club (formerly the Glen Ballroom)

Too many buyers and not enough sellers at market today.
Daughter only managed to get 5 calves this morning.
They've plenty of room in the bay they're in. You could get another 15 in there.:emoticon-0104-surpr
