Suffering payback after the times mam and dad took me to hospital as a kid having accidents while messing about or when playing rugby. Mam has had another fall and has cut her arm. Now sat in Leighton hospital in Crewe at A&E. 8 weeks ago she fell at 10 and we got home 15 hours later. Hoping for a shorter visit this time. Mainly because I haven't eaten. She was walking to the dining room when she fell. Sunday roast hadn't quite made it to the plate.
Old age catching up with her. She's 94 and is very unsteady on her feet. Hit a door frame on the way down and peeled back a chunk of skin. Minors won't look at her because of her age, so a much longer wait at A & E. It'll be sore in the morning.
Anyone here go to see Springsteen tonight? Amazing performance- 3 hours full on at his age - awesome.
4.15 and still waiting to see the doctor. Starting to hallucinate about the Sunday roast I missed out on. If we're much later getting out of here it's going to be my breakfast. A glass of the red I'd opened to wash it down.
Sorry to hear this Remote. Hope she has now been treated and you are home enjoying your red wine breakfast.
Got home just after 6. Not long got up after a few hours sleep. The NHS is buggered. Triage and observation was quick, then 7 + hours of waiting and 20 mins of treatment. Doctor was fuming when he saw her. Her injury was relatively minor but the cut was more than I'd deal with as it had pealed back a big chunk of skin. It should have been dealt with by 'minor injuries' but they wouldn't deal with it because of her age and the fall. No one did an initial assessment of her for age related 'other injuries' so we had to wait 7+ hours for a 5 minute assessment before the 15 mins of treatment. I don't blame the staff, they are just spread so thin. The system is in a right mess though. So inefficient. Anyway, Sunday roast for Monday lunch shortly. Old age is a b!tch.
How's mam doing after that ordeal? I hope it hasn't stressed her too much. I survive courtesy of NHS and they've been wonderful. However, as you correctly say, they're stretched to breaking point. Investment and better management needed. Anyway, glad you got sorted in the end. Love to your mam.
She's still sleeping. She's a tough old girl. Nothing seems to phase her. She'll probably sleep most of the next 2 days then say she's fine and wants to go home. Thanks for asking. I think the NHS in general has great people. Its the system that is the problem. Its just so inefficient. The health and safety / blame culture is a contributing factor as well. I'm sure our delay last night was a CYA by minor injuries. If they'd patched her up and then it turned out she had a minor fracture or concussions, there would be all sorts of comeback. The blame culture has a lot to answer for.
The last one we had at home was hale and hearty when it went off to a new home at a friend of our daughter. This one is only 6 days old. Another day or so and it'll be back to the farm. The dog will be relieved.
Still in the kitchen. Its had a few stomach problems but we're getting there. Nurse remote administered another injection this evening. A few more days. Need to band its tail as well. Should have done it a week ago. It's been to lamby day care a couple times, bit comes home each evening. It stayed in today as it was chucking it down. She's a lump of a lamb.
