Not surprised with all the burgers and takeaways you eat. Negates the cost of reducing your electric bill. Off course you could buy a treadmill, link up to your power supply, actually use the treadmill, to get you fitter and help the environment.
I was quite outdoorsy up until a few years ago. Loved walking the Gloucester-Sharpness canal. At certain times of year I could sit on the banks and get buzzed by Swallows. Also almost guaranteed to see Kingfishers. Yep. Did a fair few outside gigs and managed to get some backstage runners work when Queen, Quo and 10CC played at the castle and Bowie and Jackson at the Arms Park. Much earlier in life cycling was my thing. Once swerved at speed to avoid a sheep and broke my arm and nose. Still trying to find out who owned the sheep.
Daughter was out competing one of her horses today so me and Mrs remote went to watch. One advantage now is that she tows her own horse trailer so I don't have to. None of the preparation, loading, etc, just turn up and watch.
Holy ****...not DIY but following on from my recent comments...I went on a catamaran with my boys!! ****ing epic!!!! Soaked through within 10 seconds but really wild west experience. I'm signing up!!!
Any of you watery types tried this? Looks fun. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/whats...d-bog-snorkelling-championships-2022-24880561
I walked up Pen y Fan last week. First time in 4 years. Just wanted to find out if this old 72 year old git could still do it. Had to stop a few times on the way up and catch my breath and hunker down as I passed Corn Du. Very windy and it chucked it down so I was soaked but elated by the time I got back. My legs have just about recovered.
Through the year I do bits of ground work for other people with the tractor and bits of kit. Also do stuff for our fishing syndicate. Was due to lift the boats out yesterday and empty someone's muck heap. Turned up at the small holding to find the tractor had a flat. Not the sort of thing you whip off and take to kwik fit. Got onto our local commercial suppliers but they couldnt come out til today. Scrounged the use of a JCB loadall to get the boats out. Guy came and put a new innertube in the offending tyre at 8 this morning. £128 notes for the privilege. I've had a back tyre going soft fir ages as well but keep pumping it up. He had a look and found a leaking valve which he swapped out without change. Spent 4.5 hours this afternoon being a tractor driver, emptying the muck heap and ferrying the muck. More than paid for the tyre repair.
Have done it many times over the last 20 years , at one point myself and Mrs Ashton used to make the climb at least once a year. We did it once early morning reaching the summit just as the sun rose, it was magical. When we first started we were often the only ones making the climb, or at least only had a few to keep us company. The last time , which I admit was a few years ago, there were loads and loads making the trip, and it wasn’t nearly as enjoyable .
The A470 past the Storey Arms is a nightmare in high season. Driving up to the Neaudd Reservoirs (now drained) on the other side is often quieter. Know more about the lakes than the hills having fished them since the 70s / early 80s.
Just sat on a bench on the banks of the River Nith in Dumphries for 10 mins before fishing a couple more pools. Good start to the day with a full fry up at my regular B&B. Pleasant morning, drier and less windy than yesterday. No salmon, but enjoying the wild life. Kingfisher and dipper around yesterday, and an hour ago I had an otter swim to within 15 feet of me before it saw me and panicked. Ah well, back to not catching salmon.
Just had breakfast and looking out on the cottage garden. A solitary Jay and a couple of blackbirds on the lawn, a robin on the gate pillar eating some of our leftover Warburtons seeded brown toast. Kites circling over the huge conifers at the bottom of the garden making their usual whistling racket. Patio doors open, mutts curled up - one in her box and the other on the settee alongside me. All's well in my small little world.
Excellent updates chaps. Thanks for sharing Always good to get close to nature and give life a bit of perspective. Hope you continue to enjoy. Incidentally remote, if you're struggling, I understand Waitrose has really good salmon I've had an interesting start to my day with my visiting nurse lecturing me on football. She saw my book about Robin Friday and asked if I supported Cardiff City (I guess my accent helped her rule out Reading). She then told me that she supported Man Utd. Despite my best efforts, I must have made some sort of facial gesture because just before she left she asked "why is it that just the fans get called plastics and not the players?" And hammer home her point she further asked as to how many footballers born in Cardiff don't play for the Bluebirds and how many Cardiff players were born there. I'm appalled to say that I had nothing in response so I was quite glad she was on her way out! I'll get my head around it and get a retort ready in case she comes again. Birds seen from my window today: Jackdaws, Song Thrush, Magpies and Wood Pigeons. Not very exotic but still good to see them
fair play, always good to have a bit of banter, even with Man United fans! Suppose as far as players go, those that jump ship to bigger clubs could be described as either ambitious or mercenary? I guess though, it is a very "plastic" or fake gesture when you see players kissing the club badge (or similar gestures) soon after doing the same at a previous club.. I believe players signed from elsewhere can gain a love or an affinity for the clubs they are at given time, but it just looks a bit shallow when they've only been there for 5 minutes. Maybe that's a better term for fans of bigger clubs that never actually go to watch them... Shallow rather than plastic? Anyhow, not to break the thread, I am currently sat at my desk in my "home office" trying to finalise spending just over £9 million on some software. Birds seen from my window include lots of sparrows, magpies, collared doves, pigeons and Gisele Bundchen (ok, I may have fibbed about one of those but not saying which). I am also waiting for a blind man (or woman) to turn up and fit some day/night blinds throughout the Brizzle residence.
Have you been into GAME recently and seen the prices??? And if it were my money rather than my employers, then I'd definitely have put at least half towards a striker and maybe kept the rest for a season ticket in the posh seats and for a few Peroni's and pies!!
Hahahaha. No I haven't been into Game - ever! I'm only just finding out that the Commodore 64 is no longer. Glad to see you have a plan for the proceeds from your future best-sellers.
