Thought you were going to say it was running around until Saturday 12.30
The shortest Ive done is to take it to the slaughterhouse on a Thursday and eat it on a Sunday.

Our daughter getting into a new routine since moving. They vetted a slaughterhouse local to the farm they've moved to, who also butcher. They slaughter lambs on alternate mondays.

A big compliment from the butcher. After he butchered the lambs for them, he asked if he could buy 10 for his shop.

We keep half a lamb every year. The leg is done fresh, the rest goes in the freezer.

Daughter is 31 in the coming week. Her partner has decided to take her to Paris for a few days. Given their commitments at the farm, cover is needed.
He asked me if I could do a few shifts. I offered to do the mornings if he could get someone to do the afternoons.
Given the situation at home with my mam, I was going to go down and back each morning. A 45-50 minute drive each way with 1.5-2 hours work. Out of the house at half 6, back by half 10.

Unfortunately, mam collapsed 10 days ago. A short visit to hospital, but a big step back in her physical health. To cut a long story short, she's been in a home since Wednesday. Been in to see her each day, but given she is now getting 24 hour care we've decided to go to the farm tomorrow and stay until Friday. Feel a bit guilty, but we could do with the break as its been a demanding few months, though she's been with us for over 2 years.
Down to Stafford tomorrow afternoon, get my instructions (a few changes since my last visit) out for a birthday meal and they are off to Paris on Tuesday.

So, more farming updates to come.

Don't be guilty. From little updates on here, you have been a model son......if not more so! You need time to yourselves too and Mam is in a safe place and will surely want you to have a little break. It hardly comes with no strings or work. You are helping her granddaughter.
Looking forward to more updates!
Thanks FfB, appreciated.
Everyone says the same thing. Still hard not to feel guilty.
Daughter went to see her with her partner today. We'll go in tomorrow. A neighbour going in later in the week and we'll be back to see her Friday.
At 96 she's had a good innings and we know its only heading in one direction.
A few days of muck and animals will help us decompress.
Its been a bit odd. I went out for a meal with Mrs Remote the other day. Just the two of us.
Mrs remote went to town yesterday and I said, 'when you get back I'll do a few odd jobs at the smallholding'. At which point she said, you can go now. So used to one of us being in the house at all times.
Will certainly post a few updates.

Out for a birthday meal with daughter last night.
Up early to sort animals and see daughter and partner off. Theyre flying to Paris from Brum.
Nice start to the week. 40mph winds and peeing down with rain.
Our dog decided to stay in bed. The farm dogs loving it.
I know which option I'd have preferred.

With all this depressing weather, staying indoors for now - well, at least that's indoors in the garage.

Decided to change the old fluorescent lights which are tending to have a mind of their own and come on when they feel like it these days. Mind you they've been up there for at least 25 years and deserve putting out to pasture - see how I got the farming bit into this!.........<laugh>

Switching to LED battens both for light output as well purchase and running costs. Most out there are Chinese I know, but how are they so inexpensive to buy! Bought an 8 pack of 4 ft battens for around 60 quid - and that includes all the connection cables, interconnect linking cables and fixings.

Before fitting them, I plugged one into a socket in the garage to see just how bright they are with the other lights off, and was mightily impressed. I didn't need all 8 - 6 did it so I've got 2 spares. Just a single connection on the first and then looping them on with the connector cables provided was a doddle.

I didn't reaise just how much rubbish I had in the garage - time for a sort out now I can see it........<doh>

Did you get a qualified electrician to put them up for you? :emoticon-0105-wink:

Ive got LED strip lights up in our shed.
I put two rows of 3 in the first 3 bays (total 45 by 36 feet). Usually only switch one side on unless working on something.
Got another 3 in the front of the next 6 bays just for feeding up (1 every other bay - each bay is 15 feet wide).
They're pretty impressive.

I've got two sheds and tidy/clean them out every couple of months or so, one day I'll catch the bastard that fills them with junk. :emoticon-0138-think

For those of us who go to home games, be careful where you park.

On Saturday a friend had her car stolen from Whittle Road, off Hadfield Road, during the game and last night another friend returned to his car in a different side street off Hadfield Road. It was still there minus bonnet and headlights.

Both cars were Fiestas, reg. nos 17 and 68 respectively. No alarms installed.

The police say the area is being targeted by travellers on matchdays, either taking or canibalising vehicles for parts. Fiestas being the car of choice for such people due to the lack of any real security.

Be careful out there!!!

Last day of farm sitting today. Need a rest. Absolutely hanging.
Besides the routine stuff, lots of add hoc activity.
Keep getting messages from Paris with additional tasks.

Three calves were developing pneumonia so are on a course of injections. Could we jab the ones with the ear tag numbers provided. First job, find the 3 out of a shed full of 50. Second task, one by one, walk them into a corner and grab them. Third task, 2 jabs each. Mrs remote was good at spotting them, but the muscle was down to me. At 150-180kg they arent easy to handle. Took over half an hour, a lot of swearing and me on my @r$e in a $h!tty shed. No photos, not enough hands.

Next ad hoc, unload and store 5 one tonne palets of feed. I hate the telehandler. Visibility is shocking and I keep hitting things. Much prefer the tractor, but its 40 miles away.

Yesterday, theres a lorry load of straw coming. Needs unloading and stacking. It was only 28 tonnes of the stuff.

Anyway, a few more jobs to do before heading home.
Been on the yard 3 hours already, so time for breakfast.
