Identifying near neighbours in household conversation can sometimes be difficult due to many having the same Christian names and even in some cases surnames. Does anyone else attatch separate identities to individuals so everyone in the household instantly knows who we're talking about?

There's a family just up the road who are OK except they're English. <laugh> The husband is obsessed with fitness and going to the gym - it's not his name but he is known in this house as Jim. His wife is clearly in charge and the boss of the household with a gestapo demeanour - it's not her name but she's always referred to as Helga.

The daughter finished university last year and has been bought a car by dad. She speaks to none of us plebs but jogs regularly around the neighbour hood with a Fitbit strapped to her arm. She has an air of arrogance about her every move and is known simply as the brat.

The elder son has left home now but is apparently a "top sales executive" and turns up regularly booted and suited - he's referred to as the Boy Wonder......<laugh><laugh>

A bit childish but the point is we know exactly who we're talking about - anyone else do the same sort of thing?

I live close to the Forest of Dean so identification in itself is a challenge.

A morning's golf at Glamorganshire Golf Club, Penarth tomorrow with former work colleagues.

I'm being optimistic and taking 10 balls only. Lost 5 at Llanwern a month ago.

Ironically I didn't lose any at Southerndown in awful conditions a few months ago.

‘but jogs regularly around the neighbour hoodwith a Fitbit’

Anyone trying to impress, whether they could run or not, would at least be wearing a Garmin or better!

My late father-in-law usually came home with more balls than he went with.

He put it down to spending a lot of time in the rough looking for his ball and finding plenty others.

A common pastime. Although during covid you weren't allowed to handle anyone else's balls.

    Lost or otherwise.......

I've merged the "neighbours" thread I created yesterday into this one by remote - realised it wasn't necessary. <ok>

Our immediate neighborhood has actually grown pretty pally in the years Mrs Brizzle and I have lived here.
We had a very stable group for many years but in the last 6 months have seen a few move away, however the newbies all get spoken to quite early on and invited into our street WhatsApp group.

We coordinate a Christmas lights switch on every year and usually all gather together for mulled wine, drinks and food in the evening of the "big switch on".

Don't have any nicknames for any of them but the one guy opposite us is the kind that always has to go one better, have the best, be the one to stand out sort of chap.

All a friendly bunch though, and our group stretches to about 10 houses now.

Not bad going for a typical modern suburban street.

Y'know Brizzo, that's the complete opposite to me. Apart from the usual pleasantries like passing the time of day, I don't socialise with neighbours.

I'm very much a "loner" as far as my immediate surroundings are concerned. Tend to bother (communicate) much more with former workmates and football pals from the past, most of whom live some distance away.

I'm certainly not anti-social but I hate meaningless "polite" and "politically correct" smalltalk - as you might have guessed on here by now.....<laugh>
