Afternoon all,

I didn't go down today, but have been to half a dozen away games this season and cannot get my head around why we find it so difficult to get goals away from home?

Looking at the league table, we are averaging less than a goal a game and are the 3rd lowest away goal scorers in the league (only Sheff U and Palace in the bottom 4 have scored less). We have also only scored 2 goals in away games 3 times all season.

That said our away record, while being the poorest in the top 6, is not much worse than the others and that is mainly down to our defensive record. Those 3 games we scored twice we won, and we have only conceded more than one twice, with one of those being Barnsley which bar Leicester is the worst performance I have seen all season.

Today sounded like a few games I have seen this season where we have dominated the game possession wise, created more chances but not been able to take them?

So what do you think we are missing?

The obvious answer would be a striker to put away the chances...Only McGugan and Earnie have scored more than 2 away goals and as we are approaching 7 months into the season that is a pretty damning statistic, but I cant help think that its more than that, our whole set up seems to be to approach games with the mindset of not losing rather than winning, so we are not as adventurous as we are at home. Today it sounded like we were unlucky but I cannot help thinking you make your own luck and giving our full backs and midfielders a little more licence to break into advance positions would help us do this.

Interested in anyone else's thoughts about they think is stopping us scoring away from home and what we can do about it!

well done the boys though on another decent point. COYR

Too be honest I am disappointed, but I am trying not to get too downbeat about it as it sounded like we played well, and there are enough Doom Merchant Monkeys already (see ForestFever on 606) without me adding to it!

But agree, on the other hand it is these sort of performance that we need to turn into 3 points if we want to be sitting in top 2 by end of the season.

Ha, but if we beat Boro in the week, we will be one point off second with three games coming up that we should be looking at 7-9 points from and that would likely put as back in second before we start our run of tough games (but with alot of our injured players back), queue a renewed wave of optimism about us catching QPR! you have got to laugh

if we had won preston and drew or won scunny, a draw today wouldnt have looked so bad, not that it does, it just looks worse because everybody else won.

i listened and i really thought we sounded the better side. shame we couldnt find the net.
