Villas-Boas needs Zenit to do a bit of creative hiring around him.
His understanding of the game is very good, especially for a man of his age, but he's got a few areas that need to be addressed.

He gets too close to situations and takes too many things personally, falling out with a number of his more experienced players at both Spurs and Chelsea.
Having an older assistant who understands diplomacy would be a big help, I think.

He also needs to allow his teams more leeway and freedom, especially when they're attacking.
Sometimes his favourite tactics don't work and he needs to have a Plan B.

Too much of a control type (I stop short of saying freak) for me in retrospect, though I wish him the best. Just out of idle curiosity, I wonder if he establish himself somewhere--and have enough prestige to get his squad to buy into his ideas completely--whether he'd become very successful; whether, in other words, his problem is that his teams haven't bought into his ideas completely (other than Porto, perhaps), or if there's something wrong with the ideas themselves, as the unlikely duo of Lampard and Ade, among others, would argue.

In any case, depending on how the contract was written, AVB getting the Zenit job may save Spurs considerable money.

    Spot on <ok>

I was going to say Ian Dury & The Blockheads or Flock of Seagulls. One Elvis would never buy you four Beatles!!!! He might get you McCartney in his Frog Chorus phase if you're lucky.

I thought the Porto job was made for him to return to so a little surprised he's gone to Zenit. Still, it's a cushty job if you can get it. Plenty of money and whilst they are out in the sticks, footballing wise, it shouldn't be too hard to do a couple of seasons there and restore your reputation.

I'll probably be on my own with this but good luck to him <ok>

Apologies but it was not my intentions this would turn into a bash AVB session. I'm purely interested, now that he is free from any post-contractual issues with Spurs, what his views will be on his tenure here. Maybe some opportunity to gain a real insight into the dealings and ongoings in the Boardroom and so on.

For the record, I like the man and wish him all the success.

Regardless of what I feel about his managerial ability I'll wish him all the best none the less. Think he's very lucky to get the Zenit job but with a team like that, it'll be harder to fail than succeed due to the players and financial power they have. At the very least he should regain some credibility with a couple of cup or league wins.

Very surprised he didn't go back to Porto, thought both parties would've jumped at the chance to reunite.

I remember the Redknapp out thread and people wanting change, AVB was that change and I never liked him from the start of his smarmy interviews with his fake grin, waffling on about how he was grateful to be at a club which would give him a chance, we where nothing more then a rebound relationship for him, an easy lay which turned into an uncomfortable relationship and ended with him suffering the embarrassment of being fired by two London clubs in two years but he is still more bitter about the Chelsea exit, and one of the reasons I believe he took the job with us, was to prove Chelsea wrong.

No need to hate the guy, as I'm sure hes a nice chap but how can you have a manager that is known as AVB and be taken serious? Mini Mourinho? Is anyone else known by their initials because they rhyme? but I suppose we should wish him good luck before he appears in the press slagging the club off and then we will retract them good luck messages.

It was a mad appointment and another failure, did nobody look at his style of football ?
I enjoyed his gibberish interviews and wish him luck especially in that frozen hell hole.
We have gone from suffocating crap toothless entertainers to crap clumsy toothless entertainers all in a few
    months.
Please sweet lord spare us this punishment , what have we done to deserve this.

LOL nearly Tots but no one openly says Man Utd manager SAF. That's just used on forums or print as a lazy way to speak about Ferguson.

    Avb. Ridiculous!

To be fair when he was in charge of Porto, they were good to watch, fast paced, attacking, and flair, all of which was missing of some reason when he was in charge here

His new side started with a win, though he doesn't actually take over officially until today, so I'm not sure that it counts.
Probably make a good pub quiz question in the future if it does, though.
Which manager had a 100% record in European football during the 2013/14 season, yet his side was eliminated and he was sacked? (Not necessarily in that order!)
