Yeah i guess. To be honest i am kinda just guessing what the DoF role involves, does anyone really know? Its a bit like job titles with "manager" in them. What does a "manager" do? Manages obviously, but what does that involve? **** all from what i can tell, haha.

That will never happen at Spurs, we start the new season with the same squad minus the players released or sold for the first few games and then make a few signings on TDD and then they take a while to settle in.

I think the DoF is to basically take some of the work away from Levy/ AVB in terms of negotiations, scouting and travelling out to meet the players/ chairmen. I reckon it involves Levy basically telling Franco, for example - "maximum I want to spend on Paulinho is £17m and £70k a week wages" so Franco will then head to Brazil and do his best to get the bloke within that sort of bracket.

Maybe completely wrong but I reckon it's something like that.

Spurcat will probably know or have a good idea at least?

I am always optimistic PNP... but only prior to first signing/first game... then it all goes inexorably downhill

he is rated as one of the best administrators and general behind the scenes guys out there. He does more than just suggest players as some of you are saying. He will co-ordinate all back office as well as liaise with Levy, check in on AVB and report on various aspects. If he is so disposable during the rest of the year as some of you are saying then he will not be earning his keep and we would not be signing him.

Here is some info from his Wiki which I have posted before:

When Capello took over as the England manager in December 2007, Baldini became assistant manager.[3] His role at the national team of England involved scouting, managing the supporting staff (e.g. the doctors, physiotherapists, masseurs and kit managers) and making the job as easy as possible for his Italian counterpart. He left England after their successful EURO 2012 qualification and joined Roma before the start of 2012, but was assisting the team far before then. Since then, current Roma manager Luis Enrique, director Walter Sabatini and himself have undergone a huge revolution at the club with new owner Thomas Di Benedetto to try and instil a system of running a football club similar to that of FC Barcelona. Baldini left his post at AS Roma by mutual consent on 5 June 2013.[4] On 19 June 2013 he was confirmed in the role of Technical Director of Tottenham Hotspur fc.[5]

Left Roma by mutual consent. Doesn't sound like he had much impact there, apart from organisationally?

I don't know all of his signings at Roma but one of them - Marquinhos was a great acquisition. Became a mainstay in the Roma defence (only 19) and has now been looked at by Madrid and others.

That was his whole remit I believe, to establish them opperationaly to run like Barca. Perhaps with a team ethos so they can identify early on in a players career if they can play like they demand. Makes signing people cheaper, and means that signing players is not so hit and miss. Not sure if he had as much freedom as we are giving him, hence why he may have wanted to come in the first place.

For me, I think he is a top name and when you look at us now with AVB, Baldini, new training ground and some time in the future a new stadium vs Jol, Commoli etc etc We are getting better. League placing maybe not, but points atained, ambition, squad depth etc we are getting better.

so, we are gonna be run like Barca and have a relationship with Madrid which means we get first dibs on all their players. Top stuff :p

Not dissing the guy, like i said i know little of what a DoF does. If he makes the teams/acquisitions across the various levels within Tottenham more interlinked then that can only be a good thing.

I think that the basic idea is that Baldini goes in and makes them an offer they can't refuse!..;)

So we have links to German youth players through SF
Links to Italian players through FB
Links to Madrid through our partnership
a manager who was a student of the Mourinho school of coaching
and a potential developement direction of building ourselves using the Barca format....

    Have we missed anything?
    Maybe a City/Chelsea/PSG style benefactor?
A Utd/Madrd/Barca/Bayern policy of steaing the best players from your rivals?
More Asian players to improve our Brand?

Not entirely accurate. His contract runs out on January 1st, as he signed for CSKA when the Russian league ran out of sync with most of Europe.
He'd probably cost a relatively nominal fee though, as he's told them that he wants to leave.

I think Baldini signed a high profile Japanese player for Roma, but I can't remember who.
    Nakata, maybe?

Spurm - I've read Baldini can't join till July 1st because of how he left Roma, its nothing to do with tossing it off on holiday.
