Is there an HTML/CSS interpretation/rendering issue for some embedded images ??

I perhaps should have emphasised that since Baldini has arrived, Pleat has been very much on the periphery of things, but certainly over the previous two seasons, was definitely someone who Levy sought out for advice. This does of course go back in to Harry's time at the club and this was with his blessing.

Ah, good news then. Redknapp as much as I rate, is responsible for us having Sherwood. He brought him to the club. Jobs for the boys. Never been keen on that side of Redknapp and if he surrounded him with the right people he would have had more success.

Much like if Levy surrounded him with the right people we wouldn't make so many mistakes.

Shame in the end Redknapp and Levy couldn't find a way to move on but here we are!

Says a lot on how the papers can't agree on why he was sacked:
The Independent - say he was sacked for not picking Adebayor on Sunday
The Torygraph - say he was sacked for not playing two strikers (which somehow they concluded meant Adebayor, despite him being our third-choice striker)
Evening Standard - say he was sacked for not wanting to build the team around Lamela

O Spurcat.

I remember that series too.I thought it was quite watchable......apart from the title!!!!

It's all relative, though, isn't it?

Sure, we've done better than at any time before, but so have another of other teams, including the likes of Saints. If most of the EPL is moving forward, and we are moving forward with it, has there really been any improvement at all? I don't think so; I think, at best, we've remained the same. Therefore, any suggestion of "improvement" has to be taken out of the equation.

What has been evident, however, is the fact that (a) our football is about as bland as any of us older fans have ever seen it, (b) many in the squad seem to have fallen into the same malaise that affected the players under Ramos' watch, (c) good players have looked decidedly ordinary, when we all know they are far, far better than that, (d) our defence, previously one of our stronger facets, has turned into a complete shambles, (e) despite an embarrassment of riches in midfield, AVB never seemed to be able to find his best combo, and (f) (to crown it all), we still can't seem to find the key to unlock our strikers.

If you're looking for a reason as to why AVB got sacked, pick the bones out of that lot.

My favorite explanation is that he didn't know the first rule of strategy. I wasn't arguing he shouldn't have been sacked so much as wondering why the atmosphere around Spurs is both so negative and so demanding. We don't have managers so much as sacrificial kings. Everything looks brilliant for a season, then the axe drops.

Having said that, this could still be our season, if we can just cajole the right sacrificial king into stepping forward. A rush job that short circuits the usual decision making process, if that's not too strong a phrase, could be our friend.

Sometimes I think being a football manager is like running a lunatic asylum. Very difficult to teach the inmates new tricks.
Over to you Mr Sherwood......

what is everyone's gut feeling about the time we'll be without a manager?
I dunno why but this sacking strikes me as one that came out the blue (because of some big defeats) rather than one where Levy had been considering his alternatives for a while. I think Sherwood might be in til january, and if the performances pick up maybe til the end of the season.
Then, who knows?

Worrying from my perspective. Not convinced by Sherwood and Ferdinand's (and the 3rd bloke) abilities to coach/manage our squad. I think the squad needs somebody in charge who exalts confidence and reassurance, which I believe only an experienced manager can bring. Unproven coaches/managers often tend to set out to make a name for themselves and does so in a manner that can upset people.

I'm beginning to think that the best you can hope for is that the manager does no harm

My gut feeling is we're going to take another punt on a highly rated young manager from abroad, Levy and Baldini must have been planning for this as you don't sack a manager just for losing 5-0, you sack a manager for losing 5-0 when you have already been unhappy with his performance for some time.

The type of manager we need, is an old, experienced head, Redknapp would be perfect, taking aside all our differences, if we had to suggest the type of manager, he would be ideal just for the fact he would come in increase the mood, make an impact but in reality that is a non starter for a variety of reasons.

Looking around, there aren't many experienced managers in jobs they would leave, there is no one similar to Redknapp, Ferguson or Venables, these type of managers aren't in the game much now, its more technical young managers with new ideas and they are mostly all in jobs, with release causes (thats more common), big release clauses.

Basically we have sacked Avb at the worst possible time for making the right appointment and the odds are stacked agaisnt us for making the right appointment but I'm just hoping Levy proves me wrong and brings in the right man, rather then another expensive mistake.
