Oh and we have a very useful anti liberty tool over here, it's called ASBOs. Convenient way to circumvent much of the due judicial process and start slapping convictions on anyone being adjudged as "anti-social". Nice broad definition open to a lot of interpretation

Australia is now starting a debate about criminalising women who drink alcohol to a problematic degree whilst pregnant. The intention being to reduce the number of children born with fetal alcohol syndrome or related disorders - if I remember rightly they estimate 5 - 6 thousand newborns are in some way affected each year. Seems perfectly sensible to me but of course the usual Millie Tant arseholes - many of whom who could be said to have a vested interest in the continuation of the social problems caused by FAS/D - are jumping up and down about civil liberties and the need to " educate rather than punish ".
They're trying to do the same thing here RL and the beel is on similar levels. I don't think they're talking about having a glass of wine or half a shandy now and again
