Plenty of managers came out and publicly told their boards to stop ****ing about. Clement should have done the same.
Difficult for him to do that imo, he was a new manager and looking at how the yanks acted it eouldnt have done much other than dirty the water for the rest of the season.
What's the worse that could happen? He gets sacked, compensated and his stock sky high? He'd have been in another PL job by the end of October.
Guidolin was heavily criticised for not complaining about the transfer actions of the club. But hard to criticise a club that has spent £60,000,000 - may not agree on where that was spent and there should have been more money available in the Summer but no other Swansea manager has been so heavily backed. I don't buy the Clement had no control over transfers - it seems that any transfer that works is a favourite manager's doing and any that don't are down to Huw Jenkins.
Well, he'd just got the job he'd applied for, twice and we dont know what he was being told by HJ and the yanks. What is certain is that it was the board that screwed the club over in the window as it is now evident that the outcome window were in the owners interest, not the clubs. Doubt PC saying anything would have changed that so I don't have an issue with him there. Where I do have an issue with him though, is his insistence on playing Sanchez. Dont mind him training him, letting him play in U23's until he's at a level good enough for the prem, but picking him as he is now is an insult to our players imo. So far Sanches's form has varied between down right attrocious and barely bog standard average. I dont see clement affording one of ours so much patience if he played so poorly, Clucas is a fine example. One poor half and Clement tugged him and I doubt well see him for a while. So I dont get what is going on with Sanchez and if Clement loaned on the understanding that he'd play him regardless of form and start him before a Swansea player then that is shocking, in my books its a sacking offense because he is putting another club interests and anpther clubs player development befor the interests of Swansea City FC and our players. If that's so then **** him, I'd sack Clement in a heart beat for that. We will never get the best out of him because he will never play his best here. All we can do in one Season is get Sanchez' confidence back, then he goes home, so what the hell is the point of that from a Swansea pov.
Clement should have been offered premiership or championship jobs years ago, He was listed when any job came up here and abroad but nobody fancied him. Derby took a chance on him but he was not very good backed up by Derby fans and was sacked, True to form after managers who were available turned us down because of Jenkins policy of not giving the manager the right to choose his own players and run the clubs Playing staff his way. Jenkins seized on the chance of someone who was desperate for a No1 managerial job and would be a yes man and besides nobody else wanted the job..... I find Clem's Abilities lacking and you can always tell when they come out after every loss or draw that it is someone else's fault and never his.....We are already in the bottom 3 where that is a fair appraisal where we should be as we look bad and that is down to Clement......The good thing is it is very early in the season and we can get a more experienced manager but sadly we have a stumbling block, we have Jenkins and the yanks who don't like spending money and i'm not convinced they want to stay in the premiership anyway.....
Cheaper alternative to buying back Joe or a Jonathan Viera/Chadli type player. Just think, Clucas, Sanchez and Mesa have just cost us £37-£45m (including wages and add ons etc). Joe is better than all 3 combined and I bet we could have got him for £20-£25m.
But he did not want to come back and neither did Bony at the time. Jenkins is the main reason why a lot of players wont join us and that has been going on for a number of seasons. The only ones that will join are those who have fallen from grace or don't know what Jenkins is like.....Bony is only here now because we are the only option to pay his high wages or it would be lower league football like what happened to Jase the ace..,..We are more or less a last resort as a club in the top league.. And we will lose that this season...
Going to be a very rough ride this season no doubt about that, and we must be favourites for the drop now, selling the only two players that got us the goals that kept us up last season, failure breads failure, we are now in a downward spiral. I remember Jenkins last season coming out and saying we all needed to get behind the team, and that he would address the fans concerns at the end of the season, but his silence was deafening! ......
We are now in our 7th PL season, and as an established club, we should be much stronger than we are, but due to the greed and incompitance of Huw Jenkins & Martin Morgan and gang, we are now screwed, my only satisfaction from this sad state is to see the plonkers squirming as the miserable season progresses and Yanks to thankfully jump ship..........
We go down I have advice for the lot of them....."KEEP OUT OF SWANSEA YOU GREEDY TWO FACED B@STARDS" Thankyou.
Nothing personal taken - all opinions. From my perspective it's interesting how one sided history is rarely accurate. My recollection is Britton had been looking for a move out of Swansea to be nearer his child (daughter?) in London the year before Sousa arrived and turned down an extended and improved contract. So when he moved to Sheffield it did raise a few eyebrows. On leaving Sheffield this was posted on one of their websites. 'Whatever the circumstances, it cannot have been easy settling in Sheffield and finding time to visit his child in London and girlfriend and family in Wales.' Leon could have joined Wigan in the January and the Swans would have received a payment, instead he ran down his contract and left on a free. Make of that what you will but most player have been heavily criticised for doing the same. and this post mirrors what a lot of fans felt at the time. On 12 June 2010 at 13:32, Richard Blackwood said: Have to say though that he has gone down in my estimations though after all the bollocks about wanting a new contract with us then he turns it down and goes to a rival. I'd have no gripes if he wanted to try his hand in the Premiership but these past two seasons there has been little to no distance between Sheff Utd and Swansea so with the history I'd reckoned that he'd have stayed in the end, but this move smacks of pure financial greed. Trundle did it for Bristol, Robbo did it for Leeds, Leon has done it for Sheff Utd. Leave us over money issues for a 'bigger' club and see your career plummet. please log in to view this image ' Was Monk's hatred of Sousa (presumably for teaching the CB how to defend) and friendship with Leon the reason Sousa was blamed for Leon leaving? Leon played 36 of 48 games starting in 35 under Sousa. (only 6 games fewer than the previous season) And, Leon signed for Sheffield after Sousa left Swansea.
Sousa took a shot at Britton and the club WHILE he was manager with his double edged remark ... " Britton turned down the HIGHEST wage in the history of Swansea " while having a laugh at the same time that that was the HIGHEST wage offered . Funny , I think , the first window after Sousa was shown the door , Leon arrived back in town .... more lucky for us .. than him .And , Britton left before Sousa . Sousa was having a go at more than one corner just before he left .Jenkins was having to deal with his " Arrogance " also . Just my opinion bob
Leon's mind was all over the place and he made some bad decisions which he now regrets, It had nothing to do with Sousa at all and was all down to Leon at the time. If his girlfriend had settled in Sheffield he would have stayed with them but thankfully she was home sick and went back to Neath.....Leon was fortunate that we took him back with his head straight again and the rest is history as he became the first super Legend we all agree he is...
It was the highest wage offered but it is pure speculation by people who don't like Sousa that he was 'having a laugh at the same time'. Many interpreted the comment as every effort was being made to keep Britton who was running down his contract. Sousa also had a captain actively working against him which was going on behind his back (2016 Sousa was first introduced to Monk's comments about him, Monk was to orchestrate the same actions under Laudrup and against other players who he did not like). Sousa formally left 30th June Leon signed for Sheffield 1st July. Rumours about Leon wanting to move closer to his daughter in London were rife before Sousa arrived. Had he been desperate to leave, Leon could have moved to Wigan for £750,000 - £1 million in the January. Taken as a sign he wanted to stay in Swansea it seemed more likely, in hindsight, he was running his contract down and looking for a signing on bonus and a very high wage in Sheffield. Before Britton left (i.e. six months later) Sheffield were on their 4th manager with Micky Adams looking to off-load players in the January window ... that included Leon who hadn't been loved as he had in Swansea https://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/leon-britton.21731/page-6 has quite a few comments none of which are too complementary. (Trundle, Robinson, Siggy, Wilfried, Sinclair, Pratley, Graham etc all made the same mistake.( Sousa was claiming, what we knew to be true, mangers have said since and can be found on all forums ... Swansea had to spend money on players, facilities and professionalism. At this point players were still training in public facilities and we were mostly buying wrecks. Were we right to bring Leon back? Absolutely, but victimising a manager for a player's error of judgement is unfair. Sousa's arrogance is what makes him a superb manager in my opinion. Managers are there to be effective and, given the circumstances, he was. We are in a similar position - no goal scorers but we have a manager whose tactics are unlikely t improve our situation.
