Why do we persist in lying about the number of people attending our home games, 28k+ v. Derby and 27k+ v. QPR?
To anyone who has regularly gone to home games since we moved to CCS it must be blatantly obvious that there were nowhere near that many people at those games. By way of comparison, when we were in the Prem and getting 26k+ it would take nearly 45 minutes to get out of the ground, get back to the car and eventually get off Hadfied Road on to the link road to Culverhouse. For both the Derby and QPR games I was home at Bridgend by 5.45 - less than 50 minutes after the final whistle. It would be nearer 6.15 2 seasons ago. Clearly there are not so many people around.
Have the traffic movement systems improved, are more people taking the train/public transport or people staying behind at the ground to enjoy post match entertainment? No is the answer to all 3 questions.
I know the top tier of the Ninian has been open - not fully and not fully occupied in the sections open but that has been 2/3rds full at best and there are other large seating gaps all over the stadium, grandstand top tier for instance. My best guess for the true attendances would be about 22k for Derby and 20k last Saturday. I guess some people with free tickets didn't turn up - tickets free and they probably found better things to do - and all ST holders are counted whether they are there or not.
But what is the value or purpose in declaring an attendance that has no basis in reality?
Another good example was the last home home of last season v. Blackpool when I think 26k was declared. Lol!!! It was nearer 18k against an already relegated side.
Any thoughts gentlemen/ladies?
