I see we still hold the attendance record for the League 2 play off final at the new Wembley. Not only for a club set of fans (over 40k gasheads) but also the combined attendance with the opposition too with Shrewsbury with 61,589 overall on the day.

This was in the Bristol Post, which shows the overall attendances from League 2 play off finals, since the new Wembley opened in March 2007.

2017/18 - Coventry City 3-1 Exeter City - 50,196

2016/17 - Blackpool 2-1 Exeter City - 23,380

2015/16 - AFC Wimbledon 2-0 Plymouth Argyle - 57,956

2014/15 - Southend United 1-1 (Southend won 7-6 on pens) Wycombe Wanderers - 38,252

2013/14 - Fleetwood Town 1-0 Burton Albion - 14,007

2012/13 - Bradford City 3-0 Northampton Town - 47,127

2011/12 - Crew Alexandra 2-0 Cheltenham Town - 24,029

2010/11 - Stevenage 1-0 Torquay United - 11,484

2009/10 - Dagenham & Redbridge 3-2 Rotherham United - 32,054

2008/09 - Gillingham 1-0 Shrewsbury Town - 53,706

2007/08- Stockport County 3-2 Rochdale - 35,715

2006/07 - Bristol Rovers 3-1 Shrewsbury Town - 61,589

In fact, the Bristol Post even went as far as the turn of the century (1999/2000 season) which would have included the last League 2 play off game at the old Wembley and the 6 finals at the Millenium stadium.

2005/06 - Cheltenham Town 1-0 Grimsby Town - 29,196

2004/05 - Southend United 2-0 Lincoln City - 19,653

2003/04 - Huddersfield Town 0-0 (Huddersfield won 4-1 on pens) Mansfield Town - 37,218

2002/03 - Bournemouth 5-2 Lincoln City - 32,148

2001/02 - Cheltenham Town 3-1 Rushden & Diamonds - 24,368.

2000/01 - Blackpool 4-2 Leyton Orient - 23,600

1999/00 - Peterborough United 1-0 Darlington - 33,383

Am I right in thinking that Rovers asked for more tickets and were told there were none but I seem to remember that the middle tier of seats were empty because they were owned by persons/companies and couldn't be used

Yes. People bought a 10 year season ticket meaning any game that goes on at Wembley they got a seat guaranteed. Not sure if they still have this set up but back then they did.

Did you know, that season, only 2 teams played finals at the Millenium Stadium and Wembley? Us and Chelsea.

Having tolerated 'bruv in law the RED's' jibes over the last xxxx years this one really gets under his skin. The largest gathering of Bristol supporters at a match attendance in history!
I've put up with how much better they are - Harry Dolman's money!; How much better they are - Steve Lansdowne's money!! How much older their club is than ours... Oh hang on!! They were only formed in 1982!!
Never mind Bruv!! Take it on the chin like we do.

City probably could have taken more than us for their final but were restricted due their opposition selling out their allocation too. We sold more because Shrewsbury couldn't so we had some of their allocation. But records show we took more, so you carry on telling your brother in law that <laugh> <ok>

This time last year they were saying about the number of season tickets sold this year there hasn't been a whisper, is it because of the system or are the numbers down which would I think be a surprise

The deadline has just passed for season tickets so I guess we will find out soon <ok>
