Pulis needs to go as he can't take us any further than he already has and I would say is holding us back from developing.
I have to agree with Ric when he say's he's not against Peter Coates.. He is not stupid, he may be greedy he's a bookie and a very good bussines man. He's pumped millions into Stoke City and remember what Mr Coates said only a few weeks back! Tony Pulis has " Complete control over who he signs and who leaves etc" Like I said, NO WAY will I be renewing my S/Ticket until Pulis has gone.. Peter Coates surly does NOT coach/train/ with the team nor does he pick the 11 who play every week. YES he's in it for the money but ALL Chairman are.. a sad fact but sadly it's true. I'm talking about the Premier League, not football in general.
...... but as I said earlier (or on another post there are that many) Coates is guilty by association and in the past he has also been negative towards "unrealistic fans"! In principle though its hard to moan at a guy who has pumped 100 million into the club regardless of the levels of sucess. Its interesting you raised that quote; Tony Pulis has " Complete control over who he signs and who leaves etc" ....because in my thread "Coates Speaks" (in which it was discussed) I felt that Coates was starting to distance himself - time will tell?
Smithers and all, Yes I do have a conspiracy theory, regarding Coates and his minion. NO real Stoke City FOOTBALL fan would put up with the rubbish that we now are, for more than 2 seasons. Yes I know good old Tone got us up and kept us up the next season, BUT any football manager worth his salt, with that amount of money could have done the same. Take the Sky millions has Coates has, together with other revenues etc etc and balance that against total outlay and see what happens. Obviously we cannot without the actual figures, but to reiterate Bookies do not do favours, there has to be a seriously strong guarantee of a return on investment, or they keep their collective hands in their pocket. There is absolutely no justification for the current state of affairs, except money. On another thread, someone said (can't remember who - apols) that if Pulis gets fired we are definitely going to be relegated. Well my question is, can we play any worse than we are right now, probably not, but with Pulis out of the way, maybe, just maybe we may do a little bit better, and play a little bit more football.
I think the profit aspect is more to do with the value of the club, i.e. turnover (increased with the new TV rights) against wage bill (which we know is being manipulated with the over valued transfer purchases) and general overheads. I have a sneeky feeling Coates may be looking to sell and in which case he probably isnt that bothered. The other factor is we dont really know (and cant quantify) what the BET365 brand gets from the the tie in with the club?
Hi again Smithers, My conspiracy theories grow apace then. For quite some time now the noises coming from Pulis and above have been about the importance of staying in the PL this season because of the huge increases in the TV revenues next season and thereafter!!! BET365 - free advertising on BBC TV and all the other outlets, besides, there are other Betting Companies sponsoring teams, why should BET365 be left out, probably get the naming rights to the Brit sooner rather than later. To reiterate, Bookies never do nowt for owt....it isn't in their DNA.
Just seen that we made a loss last year (even with the additional money from the Europa) and our wage bill is roughly 55 million????? It doesnt seem we have been that frugle after all and I bet Coates isnt that impressed by our tradditional end of season slump that see additional prize money thrown out the window?
sorry Nicky got to disagree with you on this one, slating a charrman who has invested the 6th most money in the prem (considering there are man u, man city, chelsea, spurs, arsenal and liverpool for starters) makes the mind boggle, im not bothered if he thinks about it as a business or whatever as long as he keeps pumping money in. Theres no way I want coates out, not in a million years!. Pulis out is the answer in my opinion
So if ricc has his way , for the next million years we will be watching S.F.C. from above , and seeing the same crud as today.
Smithers, Pulis has been at a loss for the last 3 years (I'm feeling generous) on how to take the club forward.
this statement doesnt make any sense, ive said that Pulis is the person serving up the crud so get rid of Pulis, its quite simple really.
I'm with Ricc on this one, Coates isn't the problem, and getting rid of Pulis need to be dne the right way. You may have something with your theory Nick, a bookie won't do owt for nowt, and wouldn't risk sacking a manager during the season, and getting relegated. Coates wanted the corner filled in, but with the recent lower attendances it looks more unlikely, and what's the reason? We are all bored of negative football, as a bookie, and a man who (supposedly) cares about football and Stoke City wouldn't it make more sense to line up another manager, who can do at least the same as Pulis and get us 40 points and safety, with more chance of better football, meaning more fans, more new seats, more money etc etc? That's what I'd be thinking if I were him, and it works both ways, whether he's in it for love of money or the club.
Fair enough Sandor and Ricc. But I like a conspiracy theory in the morning it smells of......oh hang on I've done that a month ago. Oh dear, back to the drawing board. Just one more post and that's me done for the day, it's a beautiful day here and I am off twitching, no hang on again, bird watching at a local reservoir with a good pub on the banks. seeyas later
Clulis will not depart while Coates is here , ergo Coates has to go to facilitate Clulis' departure. strewth talk about banging your head against a brick wall.
I think what this thread is highlighting is that the issues are now starting to affect other areas of thought. I still hold the view that Coates is guilty by association but I nwould rather have him that not - I think we have been very fortunate to have his financial input over the last few years. Our frustration makes us more picky in our criticism.
you must have been banging it against something to think that anything good will come from getting rid of Coates.
It does all go to show that TP's position for many of us has now gone. Firstly the trust that TP garnered with the talks of three year plans, and have a little patience while we establish the team is now gone. Secondly people are starting to blame Mr Coates for not bringing Pulis to book for the failure of his plans, for foisting this uncaring mercenary manager who blames anyone but himself on us, they say that he is guilty by association because he has the power to change what is happening and like Pulis with his team selection and square pegs, he is not making that change. I understand the arguement and it has some merit the consequences are a different matter. By starting to blame Coates it means that Pulis is beyond saving, he has to go because the arguement has rissen above him, if the arguement escalates further then that is where the real damage can be done, because if Mr Coates goes we could well be drilling holes in our own canoe!!!
