If Shaw is fit and deemed good enough he goes as left back until at least January , Clyne right back and Hooiveld and Yoshida in the two centre backs positions , in goal I would put Boruc in there IF he is in the right frame of mind if not Gazziniga . I would also put out straight away what our intentions our on purchases , this closes speculation , gives the players the chance to perform until January and everyone is in the open and knows what they are doing or should be doing . I would be looking at out of contract players and well as purchases . This will be my last response to you gomarchingin. I have genuinely tried to have a debate/discussion with you. I failed, so put me in the Cortese "failed to do my job" drawer. I don't read every post of yours (if I can let you into a secret, I read very little that you post) so apologies that I "ballsed" something or other up - I don't have a clue what you're talking about. You're insane. First off, players get motivated when they think they have a chance to fight for their place, not when you've already announced they've lost it. Second, if every other team knows that you're getting a CB, they'll just raise the prices on their players. Third, it won't end speculation in the slightest. From now until the close of the transfer window every fake twitter account, gossip rag, and "pundit" will be linking SFC to every CB in the world and every manager will be accusing Saints of tapping up their players. It'll be a total mess and make it much more difficult to negotiate.
If we are shipping goals like we are till December it will be kind of obvious what kind of player we are going to buy anyway so its not rocket science to deduce what we would buy , also telling the players they have 2/3 months to prove themselves ends speculation and in fact motivates them as you are being open and honest with them , we all know we are going to buy defenders in the winter and so do the players , just put it out there . Telling the players they still have their Southampton futures in their own hands now is the best way to play it , thats the way I would play it anyway , it hardly a secret our defence is ****e is it ?
If you want to tell the individual players something, why not talk to them directly and privately instead of via the press?
I understand that but we all know what will happen a player will tweet , you see managers all the time saying they are going shopping for players . I see this as a chance for some of them to prove themselves .
