Macca is a Leeds legend and nice guy. Average manager at best. We never would have been promoted under him and he has achieved nothing since finishing his playing days
I understand your concerns about SG, but then your support of Macca as a manager makes no sense to me. Leaving Grayson out of it, here's something I posted on a thread about a month ago when you claimed McAllister was a good manager that clearly shows overwise: Macca took over January 2008, with Leeds in 6th place. His first 4 games were a loss to Tranmere and draws with Crewe, Nottingham Forest and Northampton. We conceded 14 goals in 17 games after he took over and finished in fifth. He didn't get us promoted that season when the opportunity was there against a Doncaster team we were clearly better than. We finished 6 points off 2nd place - if he'd have won the games against Crewe, Northampton and Port Vale we'd have finished 2nd but we drew them instead. So that's the difference between promotion and not promotion, draws against 3 teams that ended up getting relegated. Macca took over Leeds and took us from 6th to 5th in 07/08. His second season, he was incharge for 21 games, in which we conceded 29 goals and if I remember correctly it was the constant pairing of Michalik and Marques in defense that was part of this poor record. When he was sacked we were in 9th place, had lost 9 games, 10 including the Histon FA cup loss. So that's 21 games that season - 9 losses, 29 goals conceded. That's a poor record. We had the biggest squad on the highest wages in the League that season. Yes, he made some good signings, but the results weren't good enough. Leaving SG's record as manager out of this completely, how can you actually say Macca was a good manager for us?
I think we might have got promotion one day out of the 1st Division with Macca. On paper we had a very good team and I think pretty much anyone could have and should have got us out of there within 3-4 seasons its just that we could not wait that long and could not afford the likes of Becchio, Snodgrass and Beckford at the time walking away while still in that division.
