Got away with that one - Villa bossed us for long spells - great result but hard to watch. Best moment - Deeney's header.
Was there a hint of the Championship to the game - both teams not playing that well but loads of goals being scored due to poor defending/decent finishing? We had a few of those over the years (before and after the Pozzos came in) Flores said we were "amazing"...which might be a worry given the general feeling here but we won and got 3 goals so he will look at that I guess. Gomes travelled back with the team I understand (after going to hospital..guess it wasn't an NHS one!)
Not long back. Phew. Villa better than a lot of their fans seem to be saying, but that boy Troy Deeney...he hates the Villa.
Still not enough praise for us IMO. If you asked someone to say what was the most surprising thing about the table, they'd probably say 1) Leicester and 2) Chelsea. I'd say our position should be 3) on the list. Also, on 606 tonight, they were talking about the relegation candidates. 5/6 teams were mentioned but not us. Now, to me them not mentioning us was worthy of a mention, if you see what I mean. To be where we are now compared to what many thought pre-season needs more recognition.
The pundits were saying after the match that we were certainly not relegation candidates. Good to be true that but -it only takes a half dozen matches without a win to change that. If we keep our focus we should be alright. The way we play is typical of a mid table Prem side - not a newly promoted one
They still keep trotting out the fact we brought in so many players with various nationalities so its a real surprise we are doing well. Well true but actually a lot of the current match day includes players who have been with us for a while and most talk the same language.. Even Deeney said he has picked up Italian and Spanish just incase!
His next club - Barcelona or Real Madrid? A large influx was a risk - but if the quality was there it meant you had players who did not think in terms of "we have just been promoted so cannot expect much" - having an inferiority complex - but instead felt part of a squad of internationals - who do not expect relegation. Big risk at first but seems to have paid off. Compare Bournemouth who keep harking back to their Championship performances
I think we have held our own against some of the teams we have lost too, and we were unlucky not to get points our of MU and Leicester.
A great day yesterday... fair to say a bit of a rollercoaster... and what happened to the defensive suritude ( is that a word??) we had a against Man U ? Yes an open game we kept Deeney further forward... and yet also we scored three. Villa could have scored the same in the first half... we were lucky they didnt manage to Lots of our passes went astray AGAIN... and worrying when it was our respite from their attacks and then they came back again. Paredes poor... Abdi quiet. Anya better and Guadiola looked sharp. Thank goodness Gomez looks OK..... otherwise i could not bear to watch our current number 2... clearly not warmed up and a bag of nerves. GREAT atmosphere... we rocked it.......
Let's be fair to the keepers here, it was never a day to look assured. It was a day to keep the ball out of the onion bag by any means necessary.
Yes - so relaxing. I even felt up to going out in the strong winds and filling my compost bin for the council to collect tomorrow
I've hoovered up the debris of Bombay mix I left all over the lounge floor last night watching MotD. Let's just say I quaffed an ale or four yesterday pre and post match hence the mess. I won't be driving today, neither! I have half a bottle of rioja to finish off too.
