Opportunity missed. Gus would have taken a 0-0 even after red card. He said his target was 20 points, erm well done?
We do. Poyet & Congerton must target the right players & Short must see that we get them. Anything less I will see as a sign of weakness & timidity.
We struggle because of Gus insisting on a "system" not suited to our squad. Having said that I am pleased we are at this point just above the relegation trapdoor, but to-day was a chance for an away win, we wont get many more looking at the fixtures coming up.
'Sunderland equal an almost 113-year-old club record of keeping 4 successive clean sheets in top flight away matches (Dec 1901 to Feb 1902).' blimey!!!!
Start off by being hard to beat. The creativity can come afterwards. I like what Pooyet is doing with you guys. It will reap rewards eventually (so long as he doesn't leave)
How long is `eventually` though Qwop? We must see improvement the next 2 windows or it`s more of the same old dragging on ad infinitum.
We are hard to beat, but we need to scrape a few wins to see us through, to me we look unbalanced going forward, but with the return of PVA and Jones we should improve no end in this respect.
It takes as long as it takes. You guys definitely won't be going down any time soon. I am old enough to remember what Arsene Wenger did with Arsenal. You guys aren't Arsenal BUT you could achieve your own lesser quality version. The defence is an important base. I am envious of your team really. A bit of added flair will get you top ten. My theory is next season is when you will kick on.
Exactly. In my opinion, you have done the hard job. Adding the flair is a piece of piss by comparison.
I said exactly the same thing about playing Altidore in a different way to Klinsmann a couple of weeks ago. I got panned for it, but I can't remember who by - can you?
We have a wafer-thin squad, weakened further by injuries. We have a weak forward line unstrengthened in the last window and a lack of creativity, further weakened by injuries. Gus didn't get the players he wanted in his first full window. Weve been here before and the hounds have been baying for the managers blood, then his job. And yet, at the half-way mark we have 20 points and are 14th in the league...... And no ones screaming for Gus to go. That has to be progress! Anyone would have to be an idiot to have expected us to be any further advanced. Both Gus and ES have pressed the point since the start of the season that there are no easy, or early fixes to the endemic issues within the first team squad, or the club for that matter, so to expect anything else would be ridiculous. Personally, I'll take 20 points and 14th at the halfway mark and take it on good faith that further quality signings are achieved in this window, to safeguard, strengthen and secure our place in the PL long before the end of the season. So let's all have a little faith in the board, the owner and the management from now until the end of the season and reserve judgement until then.
I would not play Altidore at all, he has had so many chances and has imo never looked anywhere near a premiership striker.
So Poyet is wrong when you say so, and right when Altidore's involved? I get it. The problem is he's one of the best goal-scorers on the international scene right now. It couldn't possibly be Poyet's fault, could it?
