Having been relegated from the Premiership for the first time last season, Villa are clearly looking for, and expecting an immediate return to the top flight. Like many before them, they are not finding the second tier is a walk in the park, but they are also not struggling in mounting a serious challenge for second spot. That said, it must be hard for them to watch their close rivals run away at the top of the league, Wolves currently being 7 points ahead of their neighbours. Villa are fresh from a 4-1 victory over Wolves at the weekend, and are eager to push for an automatic promotion spot this year to avoid the mayhem of the playoffs. Their top scorer is Lewis Grabban, who has 16 this year, although some of those were for Sunderland. Adomah is on 14 goals whilst Hourihane is on 9 goals for the season. Our top scorer is Matt Smith, on 8 goals, which suggests Tuesday night is going to be a tough night for our defence. I feel like we have had a few return from injuries the past few weeks, and so hopefully should be able to put out a strong side on Tuesday night. That said, I am not too hopeful that we will come away from Villa Park with much, particularly given the fact they have scored 60 so far this year, and only conceded 33.
Match preview on the official is just copied and pasted from a few weeks ago, so I have just put a few thoughts of my own down. I couldn't find much information about our current injuries so please add if you know more. Cheers.
From what Ollie said after Sunderland, Robinson got a dead leg and is very doubtful. Sylla was supposed to be starting with an U23 game this week so I'm guessing he won't feature at Villa. I'd like us to play 4 5 1 when we don't have the ball up there, solid at the back but with width and Eze's ball holding ability to give us some chances. : Smithies Furlong Ned Lynch Bidwell Pawel Luongo Eze Scowen Freeman Smith I'd like to see little Smyth up front running between big John's legs, but think we maybe in need of big Smith's aerial ability both up front and at the back, and leave Smyth fresh for Fulham.
What's this dead leg myth? A dead leg is when you get punched and can't feel the thing for 5 minutes.
I don't wan to be a negative Nelly, but cannot see us getting anything in this one or the next against Fulham. Any points would be a bonus.
I would certainly play 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 for this one. The onus needs to be on defence and fast breaks. Plus, we need to take advantage of any set pieces. Perhaps we may even see Manning for this one - even if on the bench. That is assuming they find him!
They found Manning Saturday. He came on on the 89th minute and like a good pro tried to hold the ball by their corner flag. It was good to see because otherwise we seemed to give Sunderland every chance to get a point during the last minutes.
Thanks. I missed that minor detail. I don't evnvy Olle for the choice of the team for the Villa match and hoe to efficently balance experience with youth. My ,atch strategy would be to furstate Villa and go in 0-0 at half time. Hopefully Villa will then be more open in search of the win and we could up the tempo with the youngsters. This sounds great in a forum but more difficult for the team to achieve. This away tactice in the past often resulted going in a half time one-nil down only to concede again in the second.
Yes but those are amateur dead legs and easily worked off, his is a professional dead leg and costs about £20,000 a week and about 3 weeks to wear off !!!
I can see this being or hoping and praying fingers crossed for a1-1 draw, and qpr are so tired they play the reserves on Saturday, come on rangers
I can't see us helping you out in this one Steve, but I feel this will be evened out on Saturday. No Rangers points for us in these two away games. I still think you will get promoted, Fulham are the best footballing side I've seen in the Championship this season.
