Norman’s touch is absolutely shocking. He looks half the player before his injury.

We actually looked quite competitive and really should have got a goal through Lees-Melou, but once again get ruthlessly punished after an unfortunate moment (in this case a slip.

Why do our players have this destructive slipping scenario. There are, I assume, many boots and stud set ups available. Are the players that stupid that they will use their favourite boots no matter the conditions?

Should be two. More crap defending at a corner. I thought Smith was meant to sort out our defence at set pieces.

For a team whose fans were boasting how they were going to make Europe this season, Villa are thuggish.

Got caught in a tackle. Hopefully not serious.

Burnley equaliser means we're relegated today as it stands.

    Burnley have scored again
In all honesty, I would be happy to see Burnley escape if it means Everton drop out of the PL

I wish this pathetic season could end today. Take the Championship by storm last season and are relegated with a whimper this season. Not sure if being in the EPL is where we should be. When we are promoted we are relegated very soon after. If we can’t make a decent fist of staying the EPL then why bother getting promotion?

I found watching today's game totally depressing. Not because we played that badly - I thought this was one of our best performances of the season (OK, a low bar). But it seemed to sum up the impossibility of the task we are facing. Villa have spent a fortune and yes, they are better than us because they are staying in this league and we are relegated, but the difference is minimal. They are thuggish and uncreative, but have that muscularity and awareness of when to foul that keeps teams in this league, but the idea that they are anywhere near to being more than mid-table extras is a joke. So our choice for the future is to aim to become one of these uninspiring teams that survive in the lower half of the table or to try and break the mould and fail.

Because without promotion we wouldn't have Rashica, Sargent, Lees-Melou, Gunn and Tzolis. Players come to us to play in the PL.

    Agree with Gozo's conclusions though.

Agreed. That was the perfect summary of our season. 80% of the time we look competitive, but misfortune and errors punish us and we lack any real killer instinct up front. Scoreline doesn’t quite feel fair, but the result was simply because we seem to fail to do the most important thing in football: get it in the net.

One of the least painful relegations in years.

We started the season badly and didn't register a win for months, sacked Farke had a mini bounce then fizzled out.

Doesn't compare with Fulham away on the last day knowing a win will keep us up and getting pumped .

You would hope the financial situation at the club is buoyant for a few years and any players leaving will generate more money .

We are the poor relation misfits of Elite football and even if a foreign oligarch bought us and pissed away £200m we wouldn't be anywhere near the top 6 teams .

Not impressed with Smith but none of the signings are his and you can't judge him on mission Improbable.

Personally I would feel more confident with Farke in charge to get us promoted but he was terrible at Premier league level breaking records for being terrible.

Might get to a few more games next season .
