It was his first damn start and decent amount of time on the pitch in god knows how long. What do you expect?
Couldn't agree more. I thought Borini's touch and decision making were poor but he ran his socks off, got in decent positions, constantly wanted the ball and got a deserved goal for his efforts. From our current options, he's the best player we have. Although I should applaud Lambert as he was good when he came on too.
God help Sturridge when he gets his first start back from injury then because there's no way he'll be match sharp either
Sahko was immense today, by the way. Him, Can and Lucas has completely transformed our defensive shape as a whole, we look much more solid. FB's are still a weird one, Moreno blows hot and cold, Manquillo is in and out and Markovic is certainly not a wing back.
Difference is, we've seen Sturridge at his best. Borini's touch and decision making is poor regardless of fitness levels.
Maybe you should try judging a player on their performance in junction with their actual abilities rather than expecting every player to be Jesus Christ himself
Please tell me when was the last time he got a run in the side, enough to build some confidence, fitness and sharpness. I bet anyone would struggle with the sporadic appearances he gets.
Agreed. Those 3 players have changed the defensive side of the team. I'm not a fan of Lucas but his inclusion means we have a DM in that position. Can and Sakho are so good on the ball - we can actually build attacks from the back now, and it relieves Skrtel of those duties and allows him to focus purely on defending. Thought Skrtel was quite proactive today.
Although I agree that Markovic isn't a WB, he's actually better at defending than some of our defenders
I agree to an extent, as soon as we have some good defenders to accompany Sakho, we can move Can along side Henderson in midfield and then we are looking a lot better. Thought Coutinho was fantastic too today, Sterling looked still on holiday. Couple weeks until premier league now.
Acceptance and realisation are two very different things. Do I accept Borini as a first team player? No, he's not good enough and we need to improve. Do I realise he's not good enough but he's trying his best? Absolutely!
And I will take mediocre but willing and fighting players every day of the week over supposedly more talented players who cannot be arsed or who don't work for the team. Borini works, got an important goal today and deserves at least a decent run in the team for a change until Sturridge can ease himself back into contention.
Fair enough mate - and that's where I am the complete opposite to you Going back to Can - really want him to play in midfield, but I don't think we can afford to take him out of the defence.
Decent game but only decent Once sterling got a kick in the mush he ran and his a bit we sat right off in the second half and let them pump it in. We really got lucky they couldn't get even one set piece header on target but I'll take it Like I said yesterday, right shake, 11 men working and you'll do well. If we had a passenger or two today we'd have struggled Our shape is good once we are being positive. We can do a lot better than that mind I feel.
