EPL 02/11/2014 : Aston Villa 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur Weimann scored in the 19th minute (per the AVFC match clock) and AVFC's goalless run ended after 550 minutes. Our team played well today, with Benteke going close 3 times, iirc. Second half, carry on in the same vein, then the ball went to the Tottenham goalie, I followed it to see what he would do, but my attention was then diverted to the touchline, where the players were engaged in altercations. The upshot was a Red Card for Benteke, for what I had no idea as I had not seen what went on. Sometimes you can be at the match (I was in the Upper Trinity, Block A3, Row A ... at the front) and still miss things. I rarely blame the Referee when things go awry, but someone who allows a two footed challenge to pass with just a yellow card and cannot tell the difference between a goalkick and a corner does not inspire trust in his neutrality, which in turn incites anger, an anger against the injustice. It was Sod's Law that Tottenham's winner was a deflection off Nathan Baker, for he played well again today and was MOTM for me. There is no dishonour in this defeat. UTV. Attendance : 32,049
The 'rot' started when MON left in 2010, due to the owner, Lerner, pulling the financial plug. Since then all managers have had to finance the AVFC team in the EPL on Championship wages. Every manager has felt the brunt of criticism from the fans due to the lack of success, but the root cause is the owner, Lerner, with his parsimony. All managers have their faults, but at AVFC they have been forced to work within a financial straightjacket.

Ron Vlaar had to be subbed off in the first half in the friendly with Mexico. Looked like a calf injury.
Hi, as it is on the tv may go and watch this down the pub. Really hoping we can win, however Villa upset us last season despite being under the cosh. How do you think that you will do against Southampton Larry-AV?
As ever, I am hoping to see AVFC win, but with all these injuries and suspensions, I am at a loss to think who will be available to play. That combined with Southampton's good form augurs a win for the Saints. My prediction on AVillaFan, made on 07/10/2014, was Aston Villa 2-1 Southampton ... miracles can happen, so I am hoping for one on Monday.
