Well I kind of agree with that in the sense that if you don't shoot you don't get the luck. Football is full of ifs and buts though isn't it? It provides the talking points. As for me wasting my time, you know I'm not sure. Just because you miss the point, maybe others can see it, I don't know. So I'll just keep giving my two penneth worth if that's OK with you. :emoticon-0135-makeu

No your not wasting your time Mrs Miggins, I am one who is more than happy with the Man Utd result, and have admitted I was wrong in what my predictions would be for the next 4 games, I honestly didn't see us getting anything against United, and that is credit to the team and manager. However I am also aware that the result against Southampton was damn lucky. Yes we won, but we didn't deserve it, and anyone who thinks otherwise in my opinion is fooling themselves. We may be doing well points wise, but some of the football on show is ghastly compared to what we are used too.

I am more than happy with the points amassed, but I am far from happy with how we have got them.

But in regards to PGF your right, we have lost games we shouldn't have, just like we have won games we shouldn't have also. We have had red cards when we shouldn't have. But we are not denying that, unlike you who deny our points ;) do you not see the difference. Because I certainly do. In regards to the Southampton game, you do realise the Shelvey shot was the only shot we had on target right? How can you not see that as our get out of jail shot during that game. It was a fantastic goal, just like some of the players who you have mentioned. But to deny they are more hit and hope shots is laughable. Hitting from distance is like playing on a slot machine, you more than often going to lose your money, but every now and then you will get lucky and win, but win or lose, its still gambling regardless, and its all about luck. And that to me is what long distance shots are all about, luck.

"You're right luv, you're wasting your time".
Patronising and boorish. An apology would enhance your reputation. <ok>

"Unless you can construct a League table which accounts for ifs and buts..."
The pro Monk, anti Laudrup brigade thrived on "would have";"if only's";"should have":"could have",etc.,so that League table existed, albeit unofficially. <laugh>

Try looking at the patronising comments beforehand before you jump in and make a fool of yourself.

As for the pro-Monk/anti-Laudrup brigade I don't get caught up in that nonsense. I thought Laudrup shouldn't have been sacked. It's only bitter old men like you who can't leave it go and still dwell on the issue.

Winning "ghastly" football or losing tippy tappy? Take your pick. We are getting results that we haven't achieved before. 1st win against Southampton in the Prem (only us, Man U, Man City and Liverpool have won there this season), First ever away League win at Old Trafford. First ever double over Man U. You make your own luck. But hey ho we don't want that, we want pretty tip-tap football. Let's tell Jon-Jo to stop shooting.

    On the other hand,
I could watch paint dry and save £40+ a week.
I could believe quality football and winning are unachievable.
I could ask that someone other than Jonjo plays so we have 11 players throughout the game and reduce the need to rely on speculative long range shots to score goals.
I could go back and alter the criticism I've made about other teams bus parking, boring route one win at any cost posts I've made.

I could point out that despite our hugely satisfying points total and impressive wins we have also failed to beat very poor relegation fodder, lost miserably to West Brom, West Ham and have been humiliated by Liverpool, Chelsea and Blackburn.
I could say our finest win of the season IMO was against a very good Arsenal team when we played football.
But hey ho, we don't want entertainment or excitement. Let's forget about passing and possession and the very things that have driven our success for 10 years.

But equally, we haven't lost to them either. And Chelsea are also culpable for failing to beat "very poor relegation fodder". Chelsea 1 Burnley 1. You can't put "relegation fodder" to the sword 100% of the time and generally our record against the bottom teams is good.

There's an argument which states if you stand still you will go backwards (if you get my drift). Teams have to evolve. It's clear that 4231 with a high possession percentage floats your boat, but I'm just wondering whether that's run its course. Will we use new formations more frequently?

The longer Monk is in the job then I would say yes , and why not if it works , everything in life goes full circle and football is another example of where you see change .he's bought himself time this season (unless we have a catastrophic collapse ) to try new systems .As we've seen recently possession doesn't always win you games .

PGF's comment is very insightful and simply highlights the petulant nature of many of libertarian, defend free speech as long as its mine, sniping posts. Anyone who can read knows this as truth <ok>

I agree with you in that I didn't think we would get anything out of the game and fair play we did with a better performance than of late. The difference between this and the saints game is we actually looked organised at the back and it never looked lucky against Man utd where id did against saints. Credit has to go to Monk there.

The Burnley game is mega important for me know to show that we can perform away from home against a lower club. I don't think the Swans have ever had an issue getting up for the big games (Chelsea at home apart), but we seem to be unable to do it against the smaller sides so I will look forward to a marked improvement on our last away game.

Not once have I said to tell Jonjo to stop shooting, but I am also not saying that we deserved to win because of 1 long distance shot on target like you. But if you wish to put words in my mouth to suit your argument then by all means, go for it ;)

Past managers never had a problem with it. Yes he has got us picking up points when we play back to the walls, which is credit to him, but with credit also comes criticism, and I don't want us to lose what got us here. Our brand of football is what got us noticed, without it we will be another Stoke, Sunderland, and the like. I like our identity, even if you are happy with it to be destroyed for the sake of a few extra points here and there. But both ways we get premier league survival.

Why not get rid of the board whilst we are at it, bring in a board like Man City have who will splash the cash, lets get rid of the supporters running the club, after all points are more important than our identity, right?

Agree. I have no problems seeing us play different styles/tactics against the top teams. But against the Burnleys I'd like to see us adapt back to our free flowing passing game.

Amen to that, but I believe it's already been coached out of the squad.

"Lucky deflections" from Jon Jo was the crux of what we were talking about. Putting words in your mouth? Look at what you have just written because you have reciprocated in style <laugh>

As for getting a new Board, if you look at what's going on at the Club you will realize that most of the Board are trying to jump ship.

NB: The whole point of playing a football game is to shove the ball in the back of the onion bag more than the opponent. There are no bonus points for style. The team that puts the ball in the back of the bag most times is the deserved winner.
