The last 4 games of last season and the first 3 of this season we won 6 of the 7 games. We scored 15 goals and conceded 5.The game we lost was against Southampton 1-0 Lambert scored a dubious goal .This must be something of a record for us and Monkey oh and we beat Rotherham 1-0 in the Capital One cup !
It was not just on the pitch that laudcrap lost the plot it was everything to do with running the club. Monk fair play had to sort most things out last summer and the club is now back running properly again.
According to Monk - and it's not like him to run others down and take credit for their work, is it? Oh, hang on ... yes it is.
Some threads to refresh memories, starting with; http://www.not606.com/threads/villa-v-swansea.243159/
What has Fulham got to do with anything? I was picking up on the fact the OUR team no longer has full backs getting forward, nothing to do with Fulham. Any swans fan can tell you that Rangel's strongest attribute is his attacking play. It is how he has thrived at Swansea. His defending has always been pretty suspect, but he has more than made up for it in other areas. Now, you take away his attacking game (which Jazz is suggesting has been the case) and what are we left with? A very average player that probably shouldn't be starting for a premiership side. This is exactly what Rangel and even Taylor, has looked like for the majority of the season for us. It would also explain why Dyer and Routs have fallen off the mark so often this season. It was their link up play with the full backs that made them so effective. The opposition defences were dealing with two players attacking down the flank, rather than one.
But when our full backs go forward, some of our own fans slate them off for not getting back to defend - a classic case being the discussion after the Arsenal game!
Dyer & Routledge have fallen off the mark, because we've seen the best of them. Montero & his like are the level now, don't blame 'our' full-backs for their inability to beat 'opposition' full-backs...
Sorry but I struggle to believe that 3 players who have been fantastic for us have all suddenly become ****. Montero is a 4m buy and quite rightly justifies his cost. He is a class above Dyer and Routs and wouldn't need the support of a full back. There is a reason Routs has failed previously in the premiership yet succeeded here and it would make sense that is it down to the support he has been getting from the man behind him. It's not like i'm making this up. It has been directly quoted from one of our players who is currently out on loan. PGF I agree entirely. With our fullbacks pushing on we are more likely to concede more goals. But then is sitting back and letting Rangel 'defend' any much better? We may be more likely to concede, but we are a hell lot more likely to score. Its funny that you mention Arsenal because that was one of the last times we managed to score 2 goals in a match. In 8 of our last 9 league games we have scored 1 goal or less. Something needs to change somewhere.
For me the rot set in with Nathe early last season when he was obviously under instruction to cut back inside once he reached the 18 yard box. Since then he rarely takes a player on for pace to get to the byline and it now appears he just hasn't got the confidence to do it. To me his greatest asset is his pace, but he rarely uses it properly to beat a man and that's a crying shame.
I don't think our wingers have been used right for a while now. But at the same time it doesn't seem to be getting better. if anything its getting worse as Routs has now joined Dyer in that list. We used to play so wide under Brendan and Martinez and that was used to devastating effect. Other clubs still fear our 'pacey wingers' (as they refer to them) but it would seem our wide men are living off past reputations. But to learn our full backs are actually being told to stop getting forward, well there's not much wonder that Dyer has failed to regain any confidence.
I still think Nathe is a good player, he played quite well against the Saints last week albeit in a more defensive role. It may be that his role in the team may change as he gets older in which case we will probably need a new right wing in the summer.
Nath is 27, this is a wingers prime. There is no excuse why he as an individual player has gone backwards so drastically.
Swans-m ... who is the player on loan that has made the statements you mention. Do you have a link. I'd be interested in reading them
Don't understand why you're referring to '3' players!! I only mentioned 2. I take it, you think I was alluding that Montero is the same. Montero is the level we need to be & the level I don't think the other 2 can reach, shame but true unfortunately..
