I wonder what Monk would think if one of the current squad said that we're in such a good position because of the players, not him? I do wish people in football didn't say things like this.
Bunch of overpaid prima donnas and thats including Monk. God help them if they had to actually work for a living, nothing but a bunch of back stabbers if they don't get their way.
I have missed these comments from Monk regarding Sousa, didn't realise he had made such, and I must say I'm not particularly happy to be reading his comments here, I have a lot of time for Sousa, and was never happy with the way he was elbowed out, but I do know that Sousa could be a handful too, shame Jenkins couldn't have got on with him, I notice he's no where to be found in 'Jack to King'?
This is the first I have heard of this. I have read books from Nurse and Curtis, which I found informative and insightful. I have recently read Pep Confidential about Guardiola's first year at Bayern - a day by day account - with tremendous insight into the mind, anxieties and methods of one of the World's top coaches (Well worth the time). After reading Terror's excerpt, there is just one thing that pops into my mind ... What a dozy, arrogant ****ing prick. Who the F is Monk to arbitrate that having turned thr defense (including Monk - Mr. Can't Defend a Cross) from a leaky sieve into a very tight team unit, Sousa is not deserving of what he accomplished. Had not earned the right indeed? A wasted season! A season that achieved a higher result with inferior resources than the guy before and was apparently compromised by an unintelligent journey man defender who couldn't defend a ****ing cross and was too stupid to understand the methods Sousa was employing to improve the performance of the role Monk was occupying. My respect for Monk is now negative. The day he is removed from his current position will not come soon enough. He is not only destructive, but totally disrespectful of the decisions made by Club ownership - supposedly acting in the Club's best interest - to appoint Sousa as manager. Monk's job was to listen, learn and do what he was ****ing told, and if he felt he needed the placibo of working harder, he should have shown some professionalism and committment to himself and taken care of it himself instead of needing to be mothered. His own comments are full of contradiction, and instead of questioning his lack of comprehension of the methods of a fully licensed coach with great playing credentials, he tosses the accodolade of achievement to the players. What is even more maddening is that the Club made this prick manager after having had the opportunity to read this stuff and get an insight into who he really is. The Board / HJ etc had the chance to square the circle and understand the person they were hiring.
I am passing no judgement, just bringing this to the attention of those who missed it at the time. If anyone wants further detail of what Monk thought of Paulo and his training sessions get yourself a copy of 'Loud, Proud and Positive"
How can you be negative towards monk in the current position we are in (9th) He is entitled to his views being the captain at the time and im sure as hell he would have more insight about the time than any fan. I personally liked Sousa but im not privee like monk was...
I'm not being negative, I'm merely posting Monk's own words. Do you think that puts him in a negative light?
Wow! I don't read players' books so hadn't seen that. That is truly appalling - I didn't think much of Monk as a person before but that has sealed the deal. What difference in class between Sousa, who has been nothing but complementary about Swansea in public, Laudrup who has said very little and Monk. I'm really astounded by that. That from a player who was only half decent at Championship level and had played most games in 08/9 when we conceded 50 goals and half the season in 9/10 when we conceded just 37! Staggering! Thanks for digging that out.
yes it does but we dont know the reasons. me i though sousa had his game plan spot on considering the circumstances and he done remarkably well without any help he requested to jinx and the board. the football was not pretty but we were getting the results so i would class sousa as one of our top managers...monk disagrees but that's his privilege...
There is more to this than just being 9th in the league; a lot more. This is about character, leadership and competence. I have made plenty of comments regarding Monk since L-day and they have all been related to him as a coach / manager / player not as a person. Having read that, which I presume he reviewed and edited with the writer, I now have an insight into the individual. On a personal level, I have nothing but distain for him. IMHO, he is not worthy of the position he has. I don't understand the rationale behind giving him the job with this being publicly available to the decision makers. A person capable of that thinking and lack of understanding and clarity of analysis is not a leader nor competent to be manager of any club. It gives context to what we have witnessed this season and makes it a little easier to understand. Terror has done those of us that have not had access to that book a service. I am presuming that Terror has excerpted the book accurately.
It is in keeping with his public comments about refs, officials and players the season and some of the comments he made about training under Laudrup when he took over - all about intensity and double training. As I said before Wow!
I would love to know what was said in Rogers' office in 'Pool between him and Pascoe when Monk was appointed. Same with Martinez and Jones at Everton.
There's two sides to every story and the Monk comments are negative but not all are towards Paulo ,but there's similarities between his comments about Sousa's and Laudrups methods in the context of how poor they were training .Maybe the guy is genuinely loves the Club but that's not enough and now imo his inexperience is beginning to become blately apparent .The Board took a chance and a cheap option at that but if they had any sense would have told Monk keep the Club up and we'll review our option for the new season ,the longer he stays as manager the more difficult it's going to be to replace or at least bring in an experienced no 2 . Sousa's assistant Bruno Oliveira had no playing experience as Monk is quick to point out in his book , fast forward 6 years and we're in the same position .
Not here to gloat - how could I with where we are - but just to ask for your opinion on a comment of Monk I read in the paper today. On not having Britton, Yeung or Shelvey he said "It would be like me being unable to have Matic, Fabregas and Mikel." That is ridiculous and naïve; isn't it? Swansea let alone most other Premier League clubs do not have 3 players of their quality - meaning the Chelsea trio obviously.
I'm pretty sure the comment is not comparing player ability, but the effect that those players have on their comparative teams.
The quote from Jose Mourinho was "Them being without (Jonjo) Shelvey, (Leon) Britton and Ki (Sung-Yueng) is like us playing without (Cesc) Fabregas, (Nemanja) Matic and (Jon Obi) Mikel.'
My concern regarding Monks management style is that we appear to be going backwards not forward. He's been in the job for nearly a year now and for me we are not seeing any progress whatsoever. Yes we are currently in 9th place but my concern is 9 of those points came in the first 3 matches, if you look at our form over the last 19 games we have only amassed 21 points which is very close to relegation form. Another concern for me is that over that period our possession stats have dropped off significantly, now there appears to be some unrest within the camp. Hope we can turn things around soon, this year we should be ok, but it's time to invest the money received for Bony back into the squad not on the infrastructure of the club, we have already made big inroads into the training facilities. Put the stadium extension on hold if need be. No point having big stadium and fantastic training facilities if we lose our Premiership status.
This cropped up the other day and is a bit of a non-argument in my opinion. Two of the first 3 games were at home to Burnley and West Brom. Those are games we would "expect" to win - it doesn't matter whether you play them at the beginning of the season, the middle or the end. To take them out of the equation just distorts the stats thereafter for whatever point you're trying to prove. Monk has now been in charge for 36 Premier League games. His record is W13, D9, L14 = 48 points. With two games left to complete the 'equivalent' of a full season, there's a decent chance he will amass 50 points. I defy anyone on here to say that is not a bloody good effort. Libertarian will say it's not a complete season and therefore doesn't count, blah, blah, blah. 50 points is better than Rodgers or Laudrup managed in a full season in the Premier League. With regards not seeing any progress, his points per game this season is better than last (1.36 v. 1.28) which would suggest he has made personal progress. Whether you consider the club as a whole has made any progress is up for debate, but I would suggest it certainly hasn't got any worse (it depends, I suppose what criteria you want to use).
