I also think AA's "They can die when they want to" comment was taken out of context. He was probably replying to the question, "What do you think of the City Till We Die chant?" in other words, it is going ahead whether the fans like it or not.
Those few chanting this bile were all the pro-name change / not bothered lobby groups attempting to turn people against the CTWD campaign. FACT.
I can honestly say that I didn't hear the chant and those who I sit with didn't hear it either. I sit just above Assem Allam so I doubt that he heard it. You always get daft lads, in any group. CTWD will have them as will the OSC.
Although totally against a name change I think there was a gross over reaction to his remark. I was more offended by his implication that people against the name change were not proper fans and the ones who go along with it are. All very sad as after the last couple of games Allam should have been basking in the warm glow of people chanting his name and praising him for what he has done. Instead his ill thought out plans have spoilt all that.
It was very quiet as not many joined in, I just felt the need to point it out in the hope iit would get condemned by all members and supporters of CTWD. It has, so no problem there.
Sitting in the west upper stand, didn't hear the chant, thankfully. No room for it in any stadium in my opinion. I think it would be best for the CTWD group to make a statement to their members and the public outlining the stance against anti-anti-Allam chants. I fully accept its unlikely any of the main members of the CTWD were involved but members of the public will not make that distinction. CTWD probably need to go out of their way to outline it's got nothing to do with them, to keep the moral high ground along with the general public's and media's favour.
You've started something you can't control so yes I am. Don't pussy out with some half-hearted "we don't condone it" bullshit. This is advice by the way. I couldn't care less if you didn't do anything about it, it's not my work and effort that it will tarnish.
I did find it shocking to hear "we said no Allam" with 15 minutes to go, when fans have just experienced the most amazing 2nd half in the history of the club. Really ****ing sad.
What a crock of **** this is. After everything he has said and done he needs to take it all as it comes. I would not have chanted it, nor would I have lied to, deceived and manipulated my customers. Be as polite to him as you like, he'll not reciprocate.
Its "we say no", not "said". It is sad because for some of those singing this could be the last season in the history of their club. A small minority have already taken Assem Allam's advice and stopped supporting "his" club. They missed yesterday's match because Assem Allam's Hull City is no longer their football team. I find it shocking that those who oppose the name change and collected money to keep Hull City alive when Assem Allam wasn't interested are told they are no longer welcome at the KC because its his club.
How do you suggest they prevent anybody being a silly **** then? As for suggesting they started it, what bollocks, people were pissed off with the decision before the group was formed, and there'd have been angry chants about it whether the group existed or not.
If he was dropping the word Hull from the name, then it would bother me. If there were two Hull football teams in the City (as with rugby), then the word "City" would be the key differentiator so again it would bother me. But as neither are the case, it doesn't work me up to the point where the name change means it is no longer the team I support. They wear the same colours, they play in the same stadium. I do not understand the view of any who are staying away. (He hasn't even had permission to change the name yet). Yes I would rather not have "Hull Tigers" as it sounds more like an ice-hockey team, but to be honest I woke up this morning so proud to have witnessed that performance that the lads put in yesterday. Similarly with how they gave the current champions a serious fright on Boxing Day. To me, I would have been no less proud if that performance had happened if the scoreboard had read Hull Tigers 6 Fulham 0.
I find it sad that people using history as a basis for their campaign don't even understand what history is. It's simply a record of what's happened in the past btw. Short of selling the club to another city, changing the name entirely, new badge, new colours etc, whatever happens is just another moment in OUR history, not an end to it.
It was a sell out, so they won't be missed. Shame that people find the words 'City' and 'AFC' more important than the club.
