She's owned by Yoshida now, so it will probably end up with a Japanese name.

Frankel has left Warren Place and arrived at Banstead Manor this afternoon. I'd suspect a fee announcement in the next few weeks, to coincide with the breeding stock sales, and before mating plans are finalised.

I suspect 40-50. Juddmonte have about 200-250 mares worldwide, about 100 of them resident in the USA and the rest in Europe.

Born to Sea has been retired to stud and will stand at Rathasker Stud in Ireland for a fee of €10,000. A bit steep if you ask me for a horse that hasn't won a G1, though they are trading on his brothers and hoping that people who cannot afford Galileo or Sea the Stars will try to get in on the bloodline through BtS.

Does sound a bit steep. Personally I think that half that fee is overpriced for a horse who won only 1 race, even if he is a half brother to 2 Derby winners.

"Special Live Foal" It means the stud fee is refundable if the mare does not produce a live foal (one that lives for at least 24 hours after birth)

No most of the stud farms do. The two most common offers are SLF or "1st October", which means the fee is payable on 1st October, presuming the mare is in foal.

Smaller studs tend to offer incentives like:

No Foal Free Return - you won't get your money back but you are entitled to use the stallion again the following year.

Filly Foal Free Return - another free go if your mare produces a filly

Split Fee - very rarely used now but it was 50% of the fee at covering and the remaining 50% on 1st October

Most of the larger studs offer "1st October Special Live Foal" which means you pay the fee in full on 1st October, presuming the mare is in foal, but you will get it back if the foal is not viable.

In the USA they call the fee terms "Stands and nurses" which means it is only payable if the foal has got to its feet and nursed from the mare.

I ought to add that the larger operations will usually let you negotiate your own terms. Generally speaking you will pay a bit less if you opt for 1st October terms rather than SLF as the stud as more of a chance of getting paid.
