Thanks for the answer to my hurdles question princess. That article you posted kind of backs up my theory a little bit that the hurdles used on some of the Irish and French courses take a bit more jumping.

A little early this question is really Princess... Ive just checked my Telegraph Fantasy Football team, im doing very poorly, and when i logged on they still have the Qipco Fantsey comp on the log in screen for last year, so i got looking and then thinking...

Will you be running another comp like you did last year...? I thought it was a good effort by all, and we have to improve on the 15th we came in the Mini League of Leagues... I did finish 784, and we had Stick who finished 124 overall, plus 51 joined up... It would be great if we could manage to do that again...

Hope you do, and they do...<cheers>

I haven't heard yet if they are running the competition again, but if they do I am happy to organise the team competition again.

Stick still needs to let me know where he wants to go racing for his prize!

What are the rules regarding non thoroughbred's racing in the uk(jumps)? I heard Sprinter Sacre is not a true thoroughbred, as well as a lot of french bred. Do they have to be a certain percentage thoroughbred?

Hawkeye you are right about these funny French-breds! They are referred to AQPS (Autre Que Pur-Sang - "Other than pure blood"). They are basically a cross between Thoroughbreds and traditional French breeds, but the criteria is that they must be 80% Thoroughbred to be allowed to race.

The BHA allows them to run in the UK on the proviso that their pedigree has been verified by the French authorities.

Previously AQPS horses were not allowed to run in restricted "National Hunt" races (those only open to horses which have not run under Flat rules) in the UK, as many of them had run in special AQPS races in France. The rules were changed in 2008 to recatagorise AQPS only Flat races in the same category as Bumpers, thus allowing them to run in more races in the UK.

Imagine Sprinter Sacre being chucked out because his bloodline isn't noble enough <laugh> <yikes>

Midday has given birth to her first foal, a colt. From Juddmonte's website:

Juddmonte has welcomed the arrival of the first foal out of Midday, and has announced that the six-time Group 1 winning mare will form part of FRANKEL’s stellar first book for 2013.

The Galileo colt, described by Stud Manager Simon Mockridge as “Strong and muscular, an excellent first foal”, was foaled at Banstead Manor Stud on 16th January – unusually, although perhaps aptly given his dam’s name, at just before 12 noon.

Juddmonte Farms General Manager Philip Mitchell said: “Midday has taken to motherhood exceptionally well and we are delighted with her foal. She will visit FRANKEL in 2013 and obviously the resultant progeny will have huge potential."

    Hello all,

Reside in Fiji huge UK racing fan and love a punt. Since I have been here I have slowly started to follow the Aussie racing. Anybody know of any forums for the Aussie Nags? From what I have seen very different game in Aus in terms of how they approach their racing tactically. Keen to get involved if any of you have any views or pointers would be much appreiciated.

    Cheers,

    Fiji

Have just got hold of the Muscat book on the Queen's involvement in racing (a welcome addition but not as good as Bill Curling's book or others on the Royal studs/racing). It throws a lot of light on the number of different horses that have been turning up in the Royal colours over the last few years and probably again this year.
Apparently The Aga Khan has put mares at her disposal and she chooses and pays for the sire the mare visits and keeps the foal if it's a filly. That's where I presume the two decent fillies Estimate and Sequence came from last year. Any information you have on who Star Value (dam won the Prix de Diane) went to in 2012 and who is listed as the breeder?
Also she's been in a foal swap with Khaled Abdulla. She get's the produce of two of his mares and he gets the same deal from the Queen. That's where Charlton got Pythagorean from last year as the mare is a full-sister to the Queen's Oaks 2nd Flight of Fancy. Do you know who Hypotoneuse was bred to in 2012 and again by whom?
Sheikh Mohammed has also been supplying Street Cry foals to the Queen (of which Carlton House is most known about). He supplied a filly called Abergeldie (same family as Gossamer) a few years back. Any record of her 2012 mating?
Finally she did buy a couple, the best being Enticement. But do you know if she kept Starshine and if so who she sent her to in 2011/2012.

    Thanks for any assistance.

Star Value - foal by New Approach (died) no breeder listed ; due to Dalakhani (for the Queen)
Hypotoneuse - colt by Oasis Dream (Juddmonte the breeder); due to Sir Percy (for the Queen)
Abergeldie - can't find any records
Starshine - filly by Motivator (for the Queen); due to Royal Applause (for the Queen)

Fijitipster, this isn't the best thread for tips and the like. Have a look at the Daily Thread as most of the punters o these boards hang out over there.

Coolmore have purchased MOST IMPROVED out of the Brian Meehan yard. He will go into training at Ballydoyle for 2013 and, eventually, will be retired to Coolmore Stud.

Thanks pN, very useful. Maybe Abergeldie was sold overseas or sent to be covered in the US. Looks like Juddmonte have a full brother to Pythagorean. Star Value must have gone to stud as a 3yo, but lost the foal anyway. I've never known a 3yo mare produce a good racehorse. But this years foal (hopefully) by Dalakhani out of Star Value by Danehill Dancer out of Shemaka by Nishapour out of Shashna by Blakeney looks to have more of the right ingredients now. Or at least a Darshaan (2) X Northern Dancer (5) cross. Hadn't realised Dalakhani was originally Boussac blood.
Must admit Danehill Dancer doesn't seem to be hitting the heights of a few years back.

I did check the US records for a foal of 2012 out of Abergeldie but none was recorded. She may well be in the US but they don't publish records of mares that are barren/lose their foals or their covering records on an annual basis.

No she wouldn't have a foal as she'd only have been covered for the first time last year. Thanks anyway.
