More sad news to report: Zenyatta's weanlings filly by War Front has been euthanised following a paddock accident. From today's TDN:

"WEANLING DAUGHTER OF ZENYATTA DIES
A War Front weanling filly out of 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta (Street Cry {Ire}) was euthanized Oct. 28 at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital after suffering a paddock accident at Lane's End Farm in Versailles, Ky. "We are deeply saddened to report the passing of Zenyatta's filly, affectionately nicknamed Z Princess," said a statement released on Zenyatta.com yesterday. "She was a member of our family and had just begun to make her mark on the world. This is a heartbreaking loss for those who knew and loved her." Mike Kline, General Manager of Lane's End, added, "As caretakers of these Thoroughbreds, we collectively mourn the loss of this beautiful filly. On behalf of the Farish family and the entire staff at Lane's End Farm, our condolences go out to [owners] Jerry and Ann [Moss], Team Zenyatta and all the great fans who support Zenyatta."
Team Zenyatta asks that all messages and condolences be sent to Zenyatta.com, 300E 54th St. #27A, New York, NY 10022. Zenyatta=s first foal, a 2-year-old Bernardini colt named Cozmic One, is currently in training with John Shirreffs. The $7.3 million earner produced a Tapit colt last year named Ziconic."

Very sad in deed. <rose><peacedove><peacedove><peacedove>

We've had a few scares and just know it will happen to us at some point. It's a horrible thing to fear when you see them having so much fun. I really feel for the connections, and the mare.

Not sure if this has been flagged up yet, but Juddmonte have confirmed that NOBLE MISSION has been retired and will stand at Lanes End Farm in Kentucky next season. Juddmonte have retained a share in the horse and will send him several mares.

Noble Mission's fee has been set at $25,000; Kingman at £55,000 and Australia at €50,000.

Sea The Stars has been increased from €85,000 to €125,000; Dubawi increased from £100,000 to £125,000 and, based on his first crop results, Champs Élysées has been doubled from £5,000 to £10,000.

MORPHEUS, an Oasis Dream half-brother to Frankel, has been retired to stud in Ireland. He will stand at Tally-Ho Stud for €6,000.

2014 Return of Mares is out. Here's an interesting report from the Racing Post

* The busiest stallion in Britain and Ireland was Getaway with 295 mares covered
* The busiest a Flat stallion was Kodiac with 234 mares
* All of the Top 10 covering stallions (Flat & NH) are based in Ireland
* The highest number of mares covered by a British based stallion was 169 for Champs Elysees

I can find out on Monday as I'm popping into the office. We've got a pretty comprehensive list of all the stallions at stud in Europe.

Mick, I've finally got the stats for you:

Currently there are 27 sons of GALILEO at stud in Europe, with a further 5 to join the ranks from next year.

As of next year there will be 7 sons in the USA and there are at least 3 in Australia.

I've got the list of Europe/USA stallions if you want it.

I've also got my hands on the Returns for Frankel, so will add these to the thread on his first book when I get the chance.

Don't forget that Goffs Foal Sale is underway. Day one was topped by a colt from the first crop of Casamento selling for €55,000. Thursday, the final day of the sale, is expected to bring fireworks with 6 foals from the first crop of Frankel on offer.

New sale topper: €120,000 for a colt from the first crop of BORN TO SEA, purchased by Sunderland Holdings (owners of SEA THE STARS)

Nice promo video from Lane's End for their new recruit.

Lane's End had a press day yesterday to "introduce" him to the media. They said they're happy with the interest in him so far and will be limiting his book to 130-140 mares, which is pretty average for a popular stallion in the US. The likes of Giant's Causeway, Kitten's Joy etc are covering around 200.

Juddmonte have announced that Frankel's yearling full brother will shortly be joining Andre Fabre. The chestnut colt is currently unnamed but I would expect them to choose one for him in the early part of next year.
