    Slade Power has been purchased by Darley as a stallion prospect. He'll retire at the end of the season to stand at Kildangan Stud in Ireland.

    Evening Princess. A while back I think you outlined the criteria for becoming a trainer of racehorses. Could you remind me please as Amanda is thinking about it as a future option. Only interested in training our own.

    No problem Ron, of course each country has it's own criteria but these are the BHA's stipulations.

    Guidance Notes for new applicants

    Applicants must demonstrate:

    * A minimum of 5 years’ experience in training establishments including at least 2 years in a responsible and senior position preferably as an Assistant Trainer in a successful racing yard; or
    * A track record as a Permit holder consisting of at least 3 wins with a reasonable spread of horses; or
    * Running a Point to Point yard for at least 2 years and having achieved a minimum of 10 Point to Point/Hunter Chase wins with a reasonable spread of horses.
    * Attainment of NVQ Level 3 in Racehorse Care and Management
    * Attendance on and successful completion of 3 one week courses at either the British Racing School or Northern Racing College (as detailed in the Training Modules)
    * Attendance at a one day seminar at Weatherbys (details to be found in the application packs)

    The application should be supported by:

    * References
    * A business plan
    * Leases or agreements for the use of the yard and facilities
    * A satisfactory inspection of the yard and facilities by a British Horseracing Authority Stable Inspector
    * A financial reference to confirm individuals have working capital or overdraft facilities in the region of £40,000
    * A satisfactory background check in regards to an applicant’s suitability

    More info here

    I've done 2 of the 3 modules at the British Racing School, they are attendance only - you don't have to pass a test at the end if them!

    You can also apply to be a Permit Holder, which is far less rigorous. However to qualify you have to be an amateur (cannot earn your main living from training) and you are only permitted to run horses in National Hunt races. More on Permit Holders here.

    I should add, I know £40,000 sounds like a lot of money to have as capital/overdraft facility, but it is set at that level to ensure that the horses can be cared for and staff wages paid should, for whatever reason, you fail to get paid by your owners or win any prize money for a while.

    Thanks Princess, that's brilliant. The Permit Holder route sounds like the one she would be interested in. No interest at all in training race horses for anyone else. Not sure if our existing stud business would hinder or aid any application. Probably worth making contact with BHA and discussing options. Thanks again for your help.

    How is Elizabeth Alice?

    Dar Re Mi's first foal broke his maiden on the second attempt at Chantilly on Thursday. The Oasis Dream colt named DE TREVILLE was sold to his new owner, Rashit Shaykhutdinov, for 850,000gns at last year's October Book One Yearling sale.

    Dar Re Mi has a yearling filly by Dubawi, a colt foal by Frankel and is believed to be back in foal to Dubawi.

    Michael Owen has lost his broodmare Treble Heights after she ruptured a uterine ligament. He tweeted this morning "Such sad news. Treble Heights, mother of Brown Panther, died this morning aged 15. She was carrying a foal by Nathaniel. RIP my darling."

    Zenda, the dam of Kingman, is currently in foal to Frankel. An exciting prospect in a few years time!

    Sea The Stars now has his 3rd Group 1 winner after his daughter Vazira was promoted to first place in the Prix Saint-Alary following the disqualification of the winner, We Are.

    We Are's post race sample returned with a high level of testosterone which was later found to be due to an ovarian tumour. The filly has had the tumour, which was the size of a grapefruit, removed and is expected to make a full recovery.

    Princess - quick question for you. I know after the late wonderful Sir Henry passed last year that the stable would never be the same again - but this year has been awful except for Noble Mission - is Lady Cecil struggling with quality / quantity as I look on the website most days for declarations and she has had very few runners (and winners) this summer with not much too come ? Has Abdulla passed most of the good horses he used to send to Henry over to Stoute / Gosden ??
