    Evening Ron

I hope to give it some attention over the weekend. Anyone who puts money on anything I name in RL, beware I usually back donkeys!

We used to have a naps competition in an office I worked in - won it two months running so treated myself to a Longchamp bag!

    PN,

    A couple of questions -

Firstly, is there a site where I can find the schedule for juvenile flat races for the season.

Secondly, is it only in recent times that the Brocklesby hasn't actually been the first juvenile race of the season, and if so why is this?

    Morning all!

Nunavik, I will look up those mares later today for you.

Nass, I am not aware that there is anywhere public that can give you access to the juvenile race schedule for 2012. None of the race programme is set in stone after 31st July at the moment as they plan the races on a quarterly basis. The third quarter (1st August to 31st October) is being finalised at the moment, then they will work on the final quarter.

I will see if I can find anything for you.

I'm not sure why the Brocklesby is not the first 2yo race of the season. I would suspect it is a recent thing, most likely connected to the expansion of the fixture list.

It's a rather large file Ron and I wouldn't want to crash the servers!

One thing that would be useful is a "bookmark" facility. In the larger threads it can be difficult to remember where you got to!

PN, had a look at the file last night and its perfect. Thank you so much for taking the time to get it for me.

Interesting to see that the Brocklesby is the first race of the UK 2yo season, back to the good old ways.

Nass, unfortunately there is no way of finding out when a horse was gelded. Some yards may well be willing to tell you if you were to call and ask, but there is no database that I am aware of.

Certainly it's not an operation that would take time to get over, for a non-human ;), as it is carried out under a local anaesthetic.

    Cheers PN.

One more, talking to BarneyChuckles on here he mentioned that Baby Shine was ineligible for the mares final hurdle this weekend, why is she ineligible?

She is ineligible becasue she does not have a handicap mark. The conditions of the race state that to be eligible to run the horse must have run in at least 3 hurdle races to qualify for a handicap mark.

Same applies to the mares' chase final on the same card.

PN is this just a hangover from when they used to go for three runs and then a handicap mark? Seems an interesting rule, not sure why it remains because as I understand it Baby Shine has got a handicap mark from her two runs to date.

Thanks for the research once more.

PN, do you know if Date with Destiny has been lined up to be covered by anything this year? She was sold back in December and I don't think it's clear if she'll be racing for another year. If not, I presume she'll be due to one of the big guns already.

Nass, as far as I am aware, for races of this type, 3 runs are considered necessary before the handicapper can make a fair assessment of the horse's ability. Of course it doesn't apply to every handicap, but does for many of these Listed/Heritage Handicaps.

George, I've not heard anything about plans for her yet. Unfortunately many people do not announce their stud plans in advance, so we are reliant on the odd press statement and the Return of Mares, which is not released until November/December for our information.
She was purchased by John Warren, on behalf of Newsells Park Stud who stand EQUIANO and MOUNT NELSON. It is not unfeasible that she may be sent to EQUIANO (Mount Nelson is a grand-son of Danehill so is the less likely choice of the two, though not an impossible one).

Edit to update - I've looked on Newsells website and she is not included in their list of broodmares, but there are no other maiden mares listed so it may well be that they do not show them.
They do have a list of their foals so far this year, which makes for interesting reading: http://www.newsells-park.com/Foals

Nice piece in today’s Racing Post about the Watership Down broodmare band:

Dar Re Mi has produced an Oasis Dream colt and will be bred back to Dubawi

Twyla Tharp (dam of Classic contender The Fugue) is due to Shamardal and will visit Sea the Stars

Crystal Music and Casual Look (boarded on behalf of Will Farish) will both visit Dubawi

Evita (half-sister to Dar Re Mi) is to visit Manduro. Her second foal, a colt by Galileo, sold for 430,000 last year.

The operation have 5 yearlings by Sea the Stars, including one out of Casual Look, which they are very excited about.

The policy of the stud has always been to sell the colts and race the fillies, so we could see some very nice offerings at the yearling sales come the autumn
