New CEO appointed at Rangers, Derek Llambias, seems Ashley is turning the screw up there. No signs of him backing out.
The plot thickens. I don`t believe for one minute Ashley (and his very expensive legal team) haven`t done their homework. He`ll know exactly what he`s doing.
Well he's probably sent the SFA a parcel of jogging bottoms and crap vests from his shop to keep them sweet through to the New Year anyhow. Apparently, the football league of England won't permit ownership of two clubs, but the Premier League will. So providing Newcastle aren't relegated, he's ok to take over Rangers, if he gets permission from the SFA. If he's on about clearing debt and raising the profile of a big club, the SFA would be stupid to reject his advances on acquiring Rangers. He's given the SFA a handshake agreement that he won't acquire more than 10% without their permission. When he goes for 51%, he doesn't have to dispose of Newcastle, apparently he's allowed to own both, providing the SFA agree. As with anything, envolopes stuffed full of cash will make sure nobody gets in his way.
That`s a weird thing. How can he be charged with breaking rules if they are as flexible as that? I`ve got no idea of the rules and regulations governing these matters but always assumed it was all about conflict of interest. For the powers that be to say you can`t own two clubs but you can if you ask nicely sounds preposterous to me.
I always thought the same pops, it seems he can get away with it though. Knowing him he's got all the jocks pissed and got them to sign it off. I think, for the record, Celtic won't be able to compete with Rangers in 5-6 years in the SPL if he takes over Rangers, he'll want Rangers in the Champions League every year for Sports Direct, he'll probably loan all Newcastle's best players to Rangers
As much as SAFC runs right through my veins & is deep in my blood, Glasgow Rangers have always been my second team. It was a disgrace what Murray & Whyte done with such a huge club. I have no complaints what the SFA did with the club but the fact is Murray & Whyte keep their millions & mansions & it's the club & the fans who bare the brunt. Rangers will bounce back, of that I've no doubt. Not sure how I'd feel if Ash did take over.
Tell you what Billy, people can call him whatever they want but Newcastle are one of the safest clubs going at the minute, in terms of financial stability. Rangers are too big to be flapping around in lower divisions up there, he's the kind of bloke who won't allow these same mistakes to happen again. They might lose a bit of their identity but I think that applies to most football clubs nowadays.
Aye, he`d do well with that. From what you said earlier, so long as the mags stay in the prem he`s ok so mid table nowt for evermore would suit him just fine while spending as little as possible to do it. In fact, the last thing he wants for them to do well. If that`s the case it puts a whole new light on the fans claims of having no ambition. In reality, it goes a long way to proving it.
The fans have been moaning (or should it be beeling) about the lack of ambition for ages. Not only does it seem like they were right, but the reasons might now be starting to surface. He can still make money from Newcastle and get Europe advertising for his company with Rangers a hell of a lot cheaper than having to compete with the likes Chelsea & Co.
He has an advantage, called loads'a money. Rangers are a potential, money making high risk venture. They have the infrastructure, fan-base, a 50,000+ stadium, great city, history and links within the city's communities etc Fast forward 5 years and the EPL?!? has expanded to include Scotland, with a plan to incorporate Ireland and Northern Ireland into 'national' cup competitions - Flash forward 2018 or '19 and Glasgow Rangers gain promotion to the Championship League ...feasible? 2023, they are promoted to the Premiership and join Celtic. How much would they be worth then?
Technically we were already in 2019 about to go into 2020, so we'd need to flash backwards. I don't agree, that's not something English clubs will want, we already have to put up with ****ing Swansea in this league. Celtic could drop right out of the Premier League in the first season, if they managed to get back up within two years, maybe they'd come back 'with a bang', but they also run the risk of drowning amongst stronger clubs. The incentive for English clubs to vote a Scottish club into the EPL just isn't there, they'd have to start lower, a risk none of their fans would want, in my opinion. Rangers will be worth a lot more anyway, in 5 years, if the plan works. But I doubt he'd be looking to sell them, rather he'd use them and milk them for his more profitable venture, SportsDirect.com the UK's number 1.
Agree with this too btw Maybe I've been thinking out loud again ...right now, they're possibly-probably a good investment
I dunno how much debt they've got mind, Ashley surely won't want to take that on, it might get worse before it gets better for the poor kilt-sniffers.
