To be honest, the Broad decision is one of a few shockers by the umpires in this test. Agar should of been given out stumped Trott should not of been given And Broads was the worst one so far. Credit to the Aussies, their reaction then and since has been spot on.
It was absolutely blatant. If Agar had been given stumped as he should have, we'd be out of sight now (400+ lead). So I hope Stuart Broad gets another 50 today!
They wasted their appeals frivolously so I have little sympathy. I like it as it's turned out though, there have been a couple of border line decisions go the wrong way and just the one howler which has given us plenty of talking points but not to the extent that it's a farce. The most interesting thing is the definite split between fans and pundits, regardless of who they support, on whether Broad should walk. I think he should but it's moved beyond that point now, too many won't walk so maybe they it should just be forgotten about.
YV They did waste their appeals but I was on about their attitude after Broads catch, how they didn't create a fuss but just got on with the game. I also thought that the Trott LBW was a shocking decision and not borderline. Agar's stumping was out but can understand why the 3rd umpire didn't give it.
No video umpire on earth could give Agar out stumped, impossible to tell despite 20 slomo replays, so benefit of the doubt has to be given. Despite no side on shot of Trott, no sign of a hot spot from the 2 front on cameras, so OUT according to ICC rules. It's the rules that need changing, especially when an umpire as incompetent as the one here is officiating. He has plenty of previous, especially against away teams. Pietersen is kidding himself if he thinks Dar is respected, and why is he making comments anyway, he should be back in Johannesberg where he belongs after the way he shafted his team mates. At least Warney called Dar a dunce, cause that's how the Aussies see him.
The technology failed in Trott's one though, didn't it? To be honest at the time that I was watching no one seemed aware of the camera angles available not being right so it seemed like a reasonable decison. I wasn't disagreeing with you on Broad's edge, I was just saying that even though it was a bad call they have themselves to blame too. They didn't sulk and moan about it though, as you say, which was good to see. If it was football you'd have had SAF out after the game calling for the ref's head after a bad decision so it's nice to see. It's looking finely poised again now.
Set up nice for tomorrow. I make us slight favourites but the Aussie tail have all scored decent runs in test cricket so it's far from over.
That little laddie of a tail-ender seems to be the problem! We cant afford to let him have a repeat performance!
First blood to England, and sympathies to Broad for the incredible error of judgement that will forever tarnish his reputation. How ironic that the runs gifted to him by Dar did the trick. Hope the ICC send DAR back to Pakistan on a one way ticket. Tough way to lose a great Test match, looking forward to the next one, hopefully with 2 decent umpires, not just one, and someone in control of the video replays who knows how the equipment works.
I was hoping this was going to conclude before lunch, as the Mrs and I had to get to a big family barbie! As it was I had to rely on the news from my sons iphone! Great barbie (too hot though) ...and a good result!
DRS has been a complete disaster for Australia. They didn't use it as they need to in the first Test, but in this one some truly horrendous calls have gone against us. No difference in the result, but how can we expect to improve when such terrible decisions keep going against us? 1st Test gifted to England by Dar and the non walker, 2nd Test Bel caught, not given, add another 70 runs ! Rogers out LBW to a ball a foot above stumps , Haddin out to a ball not hitting stumps, Agar out to a ball he didnt hit. Third umpires absolutely hopeless in both Tests. More bad decisions with DRS than without it. Bet we won't see it in Tests in OZ.
Without DRS all those decisions would have stayed the same, apart from Agar. And that one had noise to suggest it was a nick
