What does the Sun say?
A spokesperson for the Sun said: "The Sun has the utmost sympathy for Ben Stokes and his mother but it is only right to point out the story was told with the co-operation of a family member who supplied details, provided photographs and posed for pictures.
"The tragedy is also a matter of public record and was the subject of extensive front page publicity in New Zealand at the time.
"The Sun has huge admiration for Ben Stokes and we were delighted to celebrate his sporting heroics this summer. He was contacted prior to publication and at no stage did he or his representatives ask us not to publish the story."

She told The Sun: “I couldn’t believe Dad would do such a thing. It was just horrible.
“Deb was so angry and traumatised she kicked the coffin at his funeral and I’ve never seen or heard from her since.
“And I had absolutely no idea she’s had another son who became an England cricket star.
“Dad worshipped his kids and became obsessed with the idea he wouldn’t be allowed to see them — he just lost his mind.
“I was working in a shoe shop at the time and my dad came looking for me the day before the shootings, but I was on my lunch break.
“I never saw him again and he took those lovely kids with him.”

You'd like to think there would be a law against that. And, seriously, is there anyone out there who'd be prepared to say that this and the Stokes thing are in anyway justifiable or defensible? I only ask because I'm genuinely struggling to see how they even think this is commercially beneficial. Not being funny - the Mail lost a load of advertisers for less than this - bleedin' rag should be shut down.

And has Ben Stokes said to “The Scum” dont run that article like they would have just let it go. They would have blackmailed him like they did Gareth Thomas
If that was my family member who did that will he is still your dad and we wont ever know what went on. But I would ever go shouting about it from the rooftops 30 years later. She is purely a vile money grabbing bitch who just seen dollar signs.
Ben Stokes mum probably left New Zealand to come to England to try and escape the pain and memories of this. But here comes the sun bringing it back. Its a **** rag that needs ending
The Sun would have told Stokes that he could either give them an exclusive and give his version (which makes it an even bigger scoop) or they’d publish this woman’s story. They’re absolute filth.
Seems bizzare to give him a new central contract and then drop him a few days later

Ed Smith (selector) said it would give him a chance to “re-set”. Basically he’s fried. He always looks edgy early on when he’s batting. The first ten runs are a trauma and then he gets going.
I think its a rest with a kick up the arse which Bairstow definitely needs along with the selectors standing upto him and taking the gloves off him
