Yeah, overall I agree with this. We just need to get him some contacts for those long speculative shots! I still swear its his eye sight!
I believe he needs Xavi Valero - his former GK coach. There were rumours that Kenny was going to bring him back.
Goalkeeper is a very peculiar position to provide competition. Obviously you want a top class GK to play as your 1st choice and because you want consistency with your defence this GK will play most of the games over a season. The question then is who do you have to play back up, a 2nd choice. They have to be willing to spend most of the time on the bench but at the same time the club wants someone who will be good enough to step up in case of injuries or suspensions. If you have two GK's who are both top class and one isnt playing the one who is sat on the bench is going to get pissed and want out. And trying to balance two GK's is a dangerous game to play, as mentioned defenders want the consistency factor (as do the rest of the team). There is also the fact that Goalkeepers can play alot longer than most other players, find a good one and you could have them for 10-15 years, making it harder for young GK's to break through where a Goalkeeper has established themselves. Back on topic, with Reina I do get the feeling he misses Rafa alot (alot) and its since Rafa was sacked that there have been a few iffy performances and mistakes. Hopefully when BR gets more time and settles the team it will settle Reina as well, there have been many changes over the last 2years. However if Reina was to leave, and really hope that he wont, the only replacement I can currently see is Butland.
He just needs a bit of competition to sharpen him up. We have the same problem with Cech who has made the odd howler. Cech and Reina are both quality keepers IMO but lack competition for their places. It's like any job, if you become complacent you lose the edge.
Or be arrogant/confident enough to think they are good enough to force their way into the side. Thanks for reiterating what I said Hunt
I was hoping the OP was refering to Gerrard. He is currently living up to his ''Stevie Me'' stereotype.
