Don't blame Boruc for pushing Fonte away...he didn't save that just for it to come back at him. He was also flying on adrenaline.
Yep I've been trying to remember where I saw it. Boruc and Kelvin were worst in terms of shot stopping.
Don't doubt that it may well be true, but it's one of those fairly irrelevant stats. He's not had to deal with a barrage of shots, he's not had any games where teams have just been taking pot shots and giving him dollies to boost his stats, but for the last 7/8 games you can go back and in several games he's made one or two big saves that would likely have been a goal if it weren't for him. I'd say 75% of other keepers in the league would have let in an extra 4/5 goals in that period. When we signed him and when he first came into the team a lot of people spoke of how in his heyday at Celtic he was 'world class' and we clung on to hope that he'd reproduce even half that form. Well I'd say a lot of his recent work has been world class. Not saying this for your benefit Lambie as I'm sure you agree and you posted the stat knowing it was a false stat, just thought I'd use it as a platform to sing lovely Artur's praises. Also, it is quite fun that in a lot of comment sections of Saint's related articles and match reports etc. you see the odd 'kIng ArTur Holy goAlie!!! POLSKA!!!!'. Boosting our international fan base and all that!
Someone like Al Habsi has probably got a poor shot stopping rate and he's a decent keeper. Boruc's % may be low, but the saves he does make are top class!
Boruc has been great - at very least because he commands his penalty area. He actually comes for the ball from crosses, is vocal and marshals his defence. They clearly feel happier with him doing so.
Boruc did the same the other week when someone went to congratulate him for saving the penalty against Norwich City. And quite right too. The ball was still in play and congratulations can wait until the end of the match, or at the very earliest, when the ball becomes dead.
I read that at 4.00 this morning, but was too kind to point it out as he might have hoped it would be overlooked. But this morning I might as well
A Polish friend at work said to me when we signed him that if anyone goes 1 on 1 with him 9 times out of 10 Boruc will come out on top. That was certainly the case yesterday, made a brilliant save 1 on 1 at a crucial time.
Took everything he came for yesterday, and looked fully in command. However...he did keep wandering out of his box yesterday. At points he seemed to want to play left back, at others he was nearly on the halfway line. At one point in the first half, Fonte played a back pass without looking up, and Boruc had to scramble across his goal to reach it because he was so far out of position. Starting to love the guy though.
Never in doubt that he's a very good keeper, but been surprised how he's improved in the course of the season. Maybe he's now much fitter after not having a club for a while, but confidence always plays a part. Those who were saying "he should never play for saints again" after a nothing incident in front of the Chapel end, must feel a tad silly now.
