PNP : "We may be rich, but we're competing with clubs that are either richer or have billionaire benefactors. That means that Levy has to try and outsmart those that can outspend us." Or he needs to use the superior football knowledge of Harry and a scouting network? to find the less know talents out there. Perhaps they have already with the young African striker. Levy is an expert on finance he has already burnt his fingers with footballing decisions (Ramos) let's hope he sticks to what he does best and leaves Harry the football part, Staying or not.
Too many ideas above our station I think, someone else has already said, even being in the CL has not seen a queue of players wanting to sign for us, looks like they were right to hang fire and see if we repeated the feat...we didn't. So, its same ol same ol, wait and pick up the pieces the rich don't want. Shame, I hoped it wouldn't pan out like that.
I wouldn't go quite as far as that. It's far too generalistic a statement. Sure, SOME players are only interested in money. However, there are those who actually have some ambition, and a desire to end their playing days with something more to show for it, than just a healthy bank balanvce.
Players would prefer to be playing in the Champions League than not, but given the choice between money and playing in Europe's top competition, they'll choose money. I'm sure that there are some exceptions, but not many.
I'd agree with that PNP but footballers these days are so used to having it all that they will demand(and get) both. I'm sure Liverpool will find that Suarez, amongst others, will demand a move if they aren't near the top 4 again. City only avoided it last summer because no one can pay wages on their level.
I don't think D is that important. I doubt Russia was McGeady's dream move yet off he went and I'm sure Liverpool wasn't sun loving Suarez's first choice for location either. Pav hated it here when he first came and Tevez has been resenting Manchester for years, flying his friends in from Argentina, rather than going out.
Again, possibly a little generalistic. Obviously, money is a large motivating factor in most top players decisions as to where they play their football. However, if you have been playing at the top level for, say 8-10 years, but have won nothing significant, I'm sure that there are many who would think "I'm a multi-millionaire, already. I'm maybe 5-6 years away from the end of my career, the money is now secondary - I want to win something before I retire" I know that I, for one, would think that way, if I were fortunate enough to be in that position.
