I this argument about fans is one that can't be won either way. How do you define a fan anyway? One of those popularity links earlier was based on how many people check new stories about the club on a particular website. That means nothing.

I think Celtic in particular have a lot of what I call passive fans around the world. They may identify with the club and possibly have a Celtic pennant, picture or shirt in their house but they probably don't check the results every week or read articles about the club because there's no point. Celtic play in a tin-pot league that they should win fairly easily for at least the next 3 seasons and they should go into every domestic game for a long time as favourites. However, if they were to win the Europa League or something more significant than the SPL then a lot of those fans would come out of the woodwork. Part of Manchester United's worldwide popularity (particularly in English-speaking areas like North America and Australia) is down to their Irish connections and Celtic have much stronger Irish connections and could therefore attract a lot of fans around the world.

Rangers I'm not so sure about. Although if Celtic were already in this hypothetical league then that itself would be the strongest argument for including Rangers - matches between rivals sell.

I agree , they are pretty crap but the fans they have are above anything other than United in terms of British Worldwide support for football clubs .

    NO! NO!
    No promotion to it.
    No relegation from it.
How would any club qualify to join?
    Totally crazy and selfish idea!
Almost every away match involves expensive transport to faraway places.
If that's how the involved clubs wish to go, then clear off and leave the remainder of the 92 in England to it.
The greatest thing about the English League system is that every city and town with a professional football club can in theory make it to the top of the top league by good club management and results on the pitch.
The down side but also another great strength is the relegation for non performing teams. It means no club is exempt from it if they have a bad season. But with promotion, it is possible to recover a year or three later.
A European league without relegation will quickly provide so many meaningless matches that the fans will get fed up and may the decide to go to games with a real spice to them - their own national league with clubs representing their own city, town or region!

PS; when the original poster says "City" I assume he/she does not mean BRISTOL CITY but some little club in Greater Manchester.

How would the 2 Scottish clubs qualify for a Super League? Neither would make a European Top 20
