Yeah, but they have a **** ton of money. I can see no realistic hypothetical situation in which Celtic or Rangers would have more bargaining power than United or Chelsea if this league was introduced.

Also, I imagine a few of those eastern moneybags clubs (Shakhtar, Rubin, Zenit) would deserve a place in this division just as much as Celtic would.

If it's based upon earning potential then Celtic , Liverpool and Rangers would be in there no problem , their worldwide fans would watch them , Bate or Shaktar no way .

Really , the Cups are a waste of time , how many different teams appear in them ? The Europa is also a just distraction which is a shame but also reality .

No I don't believe a super league is in anyones interest. They have champions league already so would not gain too much from a super league on top. Also I do not think it would do most countries domestic leagues much good either as the TV companies would start to take the money out of the domestic league set up. Oh they will say they won't in the beginning but the so called super teams will demand more and more as has been done over the years by the current premier leagues. So not so much money floats down into the lower leagues.
The whole sorry saga will be ok for the super teams but not so good for the rest..........Rangers in their current state would not get a look in JMO.

Agreed ....and personally I find that European football boring. Technically inferior maybe but give me the underdog thwarting a rich team every time.

I don't think the Scottish league is popular at all outside of the UK. Shakhtar play in a 52,000 capacity stadium and have a ton of money. They attract some pretty big players too. Right now they're generally a better team I'd say.

It would make the England team better; the best players go to play in the super league, great, and less foreign players would want to come to our divisions, meaning more home grown players.

OK then let's take this thought process a few stages further. Let's have teams based on major urban centres across Europe. Let's have one team from Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester/Liverpool, and maybe two from London. Same from Barcelona, Madrid, Marseille, Moscow, etc. etc. and maybe two from Paris. Let's forget about the entire football history, not only of Britain, but of Europe as well. There would still be local football in, let's call them "minor leagues", but there would never be any interaction between the minors and the majors except that any young player showing promise would be lured away by unbelievably large amounts of money. The money of course would come from TV, which is fair enough, as the TV companies would completely control the game at the highest level, and individual Football Associations would have very little or no power. This would probably mean that international football would dwindle away and disappear completely. The only intercontinental football would be between the top clubs in each continent in a Super Cup competition. Sounds great doesn't it?

Include me out, thanks, I'd rather watch tiddlywinks.

The problem is that all the money would end up in the major league, and little clubs across Europe, including Saints, would simply cease to exist.

Why ? What makes you think that ? People would not go anymore , no one in the England would see their team on tv ? No one would sponsor it ? That everyone would watch the super league ?

The only football on TV would be the major league, why would they bother showing any other football? I'm not saying no-one would go to watch non-major league football, just that we couldn't afford any decent players, or keep any promising young players, as all the TV money would be elsewhere. Eventually nature would take its course and all the backers of the minor league teams including us would pull out.

There is still a pyramid structure now , the only difference is the new system would be fairer , sure we would have poorer sides for a while but that would change over time .

If this super league did go ahead and after a couple of years of not winning anything, or being in a position where some of the current Premier League teams become engrained into that mid table position of never being able to win the thing would their fans then start to become disillusioned with this idea and want to return to the safety of the Premier League and the success level they are used to?
(Sorry for the long sentence, grammar police).

Just needs a couple of commas, like so:

And to answer your question, I think most fans would be disillusioned to start off with. This doesn't seem like a popular proposal. They'd certainly miss the Premier League, and being able to go to away games without leaving the country.

Hypotheticals aside, I think this is a really stupid proposal and there is no way it will be happening in the foreseeable future. No one wants it.
