Yes, I tried that late last night. No joy. I shall look out for that Pelle shot. He can certainly strike a ball with venom.
What a great result and very enjoyable second half performance. Set pieces still seem our most likely avenue for a goal at the moment but with Tadic & JWP we look a serious threat. Beating Fat Sam is sweet and there was a wonderful feeling of relief to win a game after a turbulent summer
Schneiderlin in the team of the week. I put it here more to point out Crooks' absolute lack of knowledge about football. Obviously did not watch the game. Also, "signs that the Dutchman is assembling a new side" is the biggest non statement I have seen in a while!
How did we ride our luck? Idiotic remark, rode our luck? Is he referring to the Fraser save where it trickled past post? He saved it man! Blokes a lazy journo who didn't see the game.
West Ham have published the most stats I have ever seen for a game. Interesting reading - pretty much all Morgan and Dusan Do we do such an in-depth analysyis? https://www.westhamtillidie.com/posts/2014/09/02/post-match-stats-west-ham-united-1-3-southampton
nah. His job is to get his body in the way, which is what he did. If you look closely at the replay, you see he twists his leg slightly at just the right angle to prevent the ball from rolling back out to a striker. He had to find juts the perfect angle to do that... I bet he has a set-square or a protractor in his goalie bag to help with that.
Just had a thoroughly enjoyable 90 minutes. Well ok, the last hour was really good. If you can't be bothered to watch the whole match let me advise you to watch the minutes after Saints 3rd goal goes in, until the end. The lads barely lose possession, and totally dominate West Ham to the point where they are chasing shadows. Don't trust me, that's what the commentator says. Apologies if Vin got here with a link before me: http://www.footballorgin.com/2014/09/premier-lesgue-2014-2015-west-ham-v.html
Thanks - Yoshida's tackle on Valencia at 81 minutes is perfectly timed Great work from Cork and Clyne for the 3rd goal Sammy Lee's celebration for the 3rd is fantastic
Usually managers bring in all their own staff, so Sammy Lee's appointment was unexpected. Les must have thought that Ronald needed some PL experience. Certainly an expressive little fella
For the first or second goal, he nearly bumped into Koeman as he was too busy celebrating to notice anyone else.
As I usually do, I downloaded the match, but I missed those moments. Gives me an excuse to go back and have a another look.
Couple of extra things I noticed. 77th minute, Diame brings down Ramirez, who then gets up, smiles at Diame. Then they stay together for a little chat. And now they're teammates at Hull City..! The other thing was Koeman yelling at Tadic a few times in the latter part of the second half, telling him to close down the channel or keeping the width available. I guess it's because Tadic might be a bit apt to switch off. Koeman has mentioned that both Pelle and Tadic need to know that, in the PL, there is no time for switching off.
Despite Morgan getting a couple, I really love Pelle's goal. A great passing move from one end of the pitch to the other, and such a controlled finish. Could have easily spooned it over the bar, but rounded off a great win.
Sammy Lee's reactions to things do really amuse me. He kind of reminds me of a rat/beaver as mentioned above.
