"Wumba Chumba" has already been "somewhere like Champions League". I'm sure you Soton fans will agree, you didn't buy him for his performances against St Mirren. Merson is an ignorant moron.
Indeed, because if he had been even remotely aware he would have known he's played Champions League for you guys. Wumba Chumba is also verging on racist, in my opinion, like that stupid bloody politican the other day who said GB should stop sending Overseas Aid to Bongo-Bongo Land.
It would be verging on racist if he had called him that deliberately, but he didn't actually call him "Wumba Chumba" at all. He called him what sounded to me like "Mwumba", apparently confusing him with his opposite number on the day Mulumbu (who he had presumably confused with Fabrice Muamba). He's a moron all right, but I'm not sure I'd go that far.
No indeed, I saw the video myself. Merson wouldn't be knowingly racist anyway. He isn't that bright or intentionally well/badly informed.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but we had the youngest pair of full backs in Premier League history on Saturday.
Yes, both 18 and according to Saints fan Ed Chamberlain, presenting last night with Neville, that's the youngest since the Neville brothers who were 18 and 19..... .. Er Ed, do yo want to re-assess that?
And they certainly didn't let us down. Chambers naturally more cautious and did an important close range save. Shaw getting more and more like a winger...getting crosses in, getting into the box himself and, by so doing, earning the penalty.
I can see shaw doing a bale and advancing to playing on the wing eventually, hopefully leaving the left back berth in the capable hands of targett.
Do you remember the Daily Mail double page spread from nov 11 on our golden generation? I was in Kenya with the Saints Foundation and someone had that with them. It was a spread written about our then academy crop (mostly still there) and saying it potentially could be as good as the united golden generation. I scoffed a little at the time, yet 3 of them played against WBA on Saturday.
I liked the joke Gary Lineker made on MOTD the other evening when he mentioned that there were three 18 year olds in the side, and that the Saints academy do churn out some talent. Then, glancing at Shearer said, Never used to..! Shearer laughed. Should be on iPlayer.
They do say that Targett is the better defender but rarely pushes forward. Shaw had a decent shot at goal as well. Chambers could also be moved forward when Clyne gets back as he is an attacking type of player with a really good cross on him, he is for me a fulltime bench member this season.
I never thought Bale was that great defensively. Shaw is probably better defending than attacking, but I think he could play either; however, I think he's best as a full back.
I thought that it was significant on MOTD, when Shearer was showing what he liked about Shaw, that he went down like a sack of spuds in the penalty area when touched but brushed aside a challenge while he was defending as if it wasn't there.
