We 'dropped' points to Liverpool and Chelsea? They both scored three against us and deserved their wins.

We didn't drop them. Why don't we have 114 points FFS?!

I agree - of all the teams at St Mary's this year these two have been the best (well except us:emoticon-0110-tongu). It's no coincidence that they are the top two.

I'm pretty sure he meant that compared to the results against the same teams last year. As in, last season we beat Aston Villa twice. This season we lost one and drew one.

    Back from Villa Park

Players today were far to static off and on the ball, in particular clyne who seemed too hesitant to take on his man. Lallana once again didnt seem effective, whether this is due to rodriguez absence or not - he needs to hit some form going into the world cup.

MOTD will be a shocker tonight, blink and you'll miss the Saints game!

But last season we "dropped" 3 points v Liverpool and 1 v Chelsea. So how is it compared to last year. Or am I getting it all wrong. :(

I can only assume he means at home maybe? We beat Liverpool at home last season, lost this season. We beat Chelsea at home last season and drew away, lost both this season.

Says a lot about the West Ham - Palace game, that we're on before that one.

No, I expect us to play for 90 minutes. Exactly. **** injury time. No more and no less than EXACTLY 90 minutes because everything I type should be taken literally.

Or maybe that's a little unreasonable. I guess I would like us to play for 72.433 minutes instead of our present 47.14 minutes. Or perhaps you'd like to hold out for 72.434 minutes?

While we're at it, I've also realized how naive and foolish I sound when I say we should "take more of our chances." My bad. We should take exactly 14.412% more of our chances.

Think the Clyne/Shaw difference had as much to do with the Villa players as their individual performances.

The Villa right back is incredibly ill disciplined defensively, but gets forward well and Shaw would find himself with a 2 on 1 situation on a few occasions. Once Albrighton stopped looking for fouls he managed to get beyond Shaw a couple of times and forced him to adopt the Fox position of defending inside the penalty box.
The flip side was Shaw could attack at will and kept doing them for pace.
Conversely the Villa left was a lot more solid and didn't give much away. I would agree Clyne could of attacked a little more, but he was never afforded the same amount of room

Tell you what, for supporters of a team that's six places above last season's finish, lots of you are in pretty crabby moods tonight...cool your jets.

Don't want to talk about it then? Ok. Sorry I dared to raise a point on your post; didn't see the eggshells.

It is incredible. I am beginning to think that Saints fans are becoming intolerable of anything other than a comfortable victory.

I also believe I just read that Lallana needs to find some form???? Blimey, two games where he doesn't destroy everyone in sight and he needs to find form!!!

No, I'm perfectly willing to talk about it. I asked if you thought 72.434 minutes was enough, because clearly you were demanding some sort of exact number.

You're being a bit silly. The lads are 'playing' for every second that the referee's watch says so.

Playing for the full ninety is just a cliché that doesn't particularly offer much in terms of detail or content. Sorry but I'm with FLT here.

    Very clever. I'm impressed.

On the subject though, I'll try and make it a sensible discussion - what do you mean then by 90 minutes? If team A outplays team B in the first half, do you not think that at some point the opposition coaches will try to counteract that dominance tactically in some way, thus making a second period of similar dominance harder to achieve?

Slightly related but do you think we can be poor out of the blocks in 2nd half? A few times this season we've dominated teams in the first half and succumbed very early in the 2nd.

Actually looking at that handball again that could easily have been a penalty.
