If any Saints supporter moans about our transfer window, there's a great two word response.......Joe Kinnear.
£27.5m for Fellaini is a great deal, I don't care what anyone says. Cheaper than Ander, who is considerably worse.
Two completely different players. I reckon that's a bit harsh on Ander, too. Not that I'm complaining, I'd have been gutted if he left my beloved Athletic.
I'm a big fan of Ander, but the fee was too much for someone who, if he fulfils his potential, will be first team material in a year or so. I know he's a different position to Fellaini, but I think Fellaini's position is the one that needs filling, rather the AMC position which really should belong to Kagawa.
£27.5m for Fellaini is top dollar price especially when his buy out clause was £22m before July 31st.
Ah yeah, that's fair enough. I was thinking it was a bit of a ridiculous fee too, but then teams these days seem happy to pay big for someone who they think will be worth more in the future.
Well £22m would have been even better but clearly it couldn't happen then for whatever reason, so it has no bearing on whether this is a good deal now. I'd still pay over £30m for a player of his quality in a position United so desperately need to fill.
It does have a bearing because if Man Utd had offered £22m before July 31st they would of got of their man, no questions asked. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...l--much-to-the-relief-of-everton-8763058.html
1) Perhaps Fellaini was convinced to stay at the time 2) Perhaps United had better targets at the time. Always easy to criticise in hindsight, isn't it.
That's the bad thing for all involved. Its not a good thing for UTD that as soon as Fergie goes they can no longer get their top targets. They have missed out in the past I am sure but they didn't tend to be openly coveting players and not get them. With Fellaini it sounds like he had to hand in a request and try to engineer the move, so he isn't going to feel totally wanted by his old boss (although I am sure the increased wages will appease, some what). I wonder if UTD were waiting for the Bale transfer to go through and thought they would land Ronaldo in the domino effect after but Madrid wouldn't sell leaving them hanging.
You put the statement out there...I don't think its a great deal even though you don't care what I say but I will have my opinion. Man Utd could of bought him for £22m which Moyes would of been well aware of, seems more like a last minute panic buy than a great deal.
No but they never used to so openly go after a player/s and fail. There may have been interest but you wouldn't hear that they failed in a bid like we have this window with Fabregas, Baines, Fellaini.
True, I guess Fergie had different ways of doing things. I think it's good that they're aiming so high though.
