Woah. Looks like Shane Long is going to leave West Brom. He's just left Ireland's hotel for talks with another club, believed to be Hull City.
Apparently we've loaned out Emmanuel Maduna according to the halfwit Sky reporter. Maybe Mayuka is still there and PTF can stop panicking!
Trust me, they are NOT happy to stay. Saints have been dicking fringe players around all summer. Think Cortese gets a kick out of it and if a player makes the smallest frustated comment, they are stuck to the bottom of the pile on his desk.
@talkSPORTDrive: Billy Sharp on £15k-£20k a week at Southampton. Unbelievable wages, preventing a move apparently. Should take a wage cut, he needs to play
And that ridiculous, 'any excuse to have a pop at Cortese' assertion is based on what? Perhaps the players are being dicks by demanding excessive wages? Seems more likely than the club keeping them against their will & wasting wage money, doesn't it? Or does that not fit your ridiculous agenda?
I'm sure the poor petals like Sharp can somehow manage to cope on £10k a week rather than £20k if they're so unhappy not to be playing football. I would have thought as the self-proclaimed disliker of all modern footballing trends, CBK might be the first to realise that....
They've just said 'Saints playing hard ball with clubs over Billy Sharp. We want 100% of his wages paid for by clubs in question. Clubs have offered 75%'. We've said no so far.
I have no problem with Saints asking for 100% of Sharp's wages. That's the price they have to pay to take him, or Billy will have to take a wage cut.
Could see it happening with Barnard, Lee, Forte or Martin, but not with Sharp. Not yet any way. Too much scope for a decent-ish sell-on value.
And rightly so! There's a principal at stake here. Why should we contribute towards a players salary to help another team when he will never play for saints again? This is not a loan out for development this is a loan out because he won't take a pay cut. He knows he won't feature for us again, surely he wants to play football rather than spending another season decaying. I guess it's easy for us to say, seeing that most of us would love to be on 10k per week.... actually no... I've just taken a job which pays the same sallary but they won't pay my certificate expenses- this puts me at around 2k less a year. Why? Because the job gives me better opportunities to develop. He should jump at the chance of regular first team football at a good championship team, its the only way he will ever progress.
Or another option, if S Weds are prepared to pay 75% of wages he could, as much as the club, say "boss, I desperately want to play, I'll somehow manage on 15k a week instead of 20." It's not the club's sole responsibility to flex, why can't the player take responsibility if they want to play.
