Funny old game. We lost 3-2. If we had been 3-0 down, it might have gone down as a decent response. As it is, some believe that if we are 2-0 up after half an hour, it's poor that we can't defend that lead against Spurs away to the 94th minute. On balance Spurs deserved to win, but the fact remains that two normally reliable players made crucial mistakes for us. If Clyne had made contact with the ball and cleared that chance it would have been a draw, in fact Spurs would have equalised deep into time added on.
I am more impressed that we went two up in the first place to get too down about losing that lead. It wasn't due to poor performance. It was two individual errors.

Two individual errors let em back in the game, yes, but at 2-2 we folded. Or did they just step up a gear and we couldn't keep up? Either way, we blew it.

To be fair, I wouldn't put too much on us making 2 individual errors, because, on the other hand, both of our goals were from Spurs' individual errors.

I'm disappointed, but you are right, it was individual errors that killed the game for us, just as it was individual errors that gave the opportunity for our goals. I'm impressed with the way that Jay took his chance; how Rickie took the ball and slid his assist to Adam, and how he finished. They were slick and full of confidence. Feel a bit sorry for both Nat and Dejan. They played blinders up until recently, but today they both made poor errors, especially Dejan. Like Luke said on Twitter, everyone makes mistakes.

A lot of people are forgetting this. The result can't be put purely down to us making errors when they had errors too. It was coming down to that either way.

Good comment as you would think Southampton never gain luck or goals through errors until you posted! Not that either teams rely on errors in general but we gifted you two goals, just like we gifted Benfica two goals at home or gifted Chelsea a win. We're error prone in recent games so it's great to see us win and fight back as even though we're in a higher position, I view Southampton as being more organised and more well rounded in team setup so coming back from 0-2 even with the errors showed good character.

Casting a jealous eye, lallana and shaw would be perfect for our squad as we need an attacking left back and a talented/creative midfielder with high stamina. But unfortunately it's just a jealous eye as if they leave saints then Chelsea would probably get their hands on them, but would be better off at utd for their career.

Or stay at Saints and play for the love of the game and great support. Worked for Le Tissier!

Man Utd & Arsenal boards couldn't stop Ronaldo & Van Persie leaving. A board & manager can only do so much, if a player at this level wants to move, they will find a way to make it happen.

Struggling to think of any well known player in the last 10 years who was stopped from moving & carried on playing well for his club.

Morning all...just putting my head over the parapet. Feel inordinately depressed about this one even though it wasn't an important game in the scheme of things....we are hardly fighting relegation. One of those days I wished we had a game on Tuesday....going to be a long week until the Newcastle game. :(

Lovrens been great this season so an odd mistake is allowed now and then.
Aren't most goals in the premiership down too errors?
How about Spurs made less mistakes than us

Think thats a good point. In the modern game most goals are in the end down to defensive errors rater than individual brilliance. Mistakes we all make them. Learn from it and move on. Clyne is still learning the game. We forget how younfg most of our team actually are.

some people seem to be taking 1-2 score at half time as a sign we were good for the first half. We were good for half an hour as CBK says above. We started to lose it at the end of the first half, not when Ericsson equalized.

Now, *scratches head* I wonder why that might be......

What's more depressing than the defensive errors is the way we played in the second half. We were second best for 45 minutes, couldn't hold the ball, couldn't find a pass. In the end, they were just better than us.

This line infers you thought we played well from minute 31 onwards. The two errors gave Spurs the goals, agreed. We then lost the game because we played poorly from the 31st minute onwards. If we had made the errors and then carried on playing as we had for the first 30 minutes, we probably wouldn't have lost and may even have won.

You can't just extract instances from a game and say "well if this hadn't happened....." We played very poorly after their first goal. Now that might have been because players heads dropped after the errors, but if that's the case, then they need an even bigger kick up the arse.

Looking for positives...good to see Rickie looking positive again and JRod continuing his good form (can only talk about the first half as didn't see the second). JRod is the big success this season...he will be massive for us next season.

Yeah, Jay took his goal very coolly (is that a word?).
