Isn't McLeish one of Ferguson's Inner Circle, like Bruce and Allardyce? If so, he might be following instructions to ease off, and maybe they might have a youngster on loan in January...

Who are we lending them, then?
They did the exact same thing against us, seemingly happy with 'only' losing 2-0.
Perhaps we agreed to take Jenas back! <laugh>

I was implying Pogba, Morrison or Macheda may be offered the chance to gain some experience at Villa Park come January. Think how many players Sunderland got from them when Bruce or Keane was in charge - Brown, O'Shea, Welbeck, Campbell, Richardson, Bardsley, Evans, and a couple of others whose names probably mean little to anyone.

I know what you were implying Croydon, but I think that Villa are just a bit **** at the moment and McLeish is scared of a lot of teams.
I don't think that there's any hidden agenda there.

I can't see how the current squad that they've got suits the way that he likes to set up his sides and I don't think that a signing like Hutton has helped him, either.
He's primarily a defensive manager, so having a right-back who's at his best bombing forward and a striker that does virtually no work just won't work, especially against the better sides.

Hutton makes sense in an Old Boy's Network kind of way, given Hutton played for McLeish at Rangers and with Scotland, but for some reason he's decided that playing Hutton means Albrighton gets relegated to the bench (which buggered up my Fantasy team something rotten...), and I don't think Ireland's had a fair shake this season as he makes way for the players that put in "effort" but don't provide much else in midfield. As for Bent, he'll be off as soon as one Villa fan looks at him funny.

Another great result for the lads that could have been so much more.

Not sure I've seen a player sent off for a goal scoring opportunity on the half way line before. Luiz got away with bloody murder on the edge for his area when he got a booking against Newcastle and I think Cahill was unfortunate to get a red. Haven't seen Benny's penalty again but that looked nailed on for me.

Benny definately got a shove in the back, watched about 10 times now, wasn't an awful decision and didn't change the match result so no biggie really. The Cahill one was strange, although their nearest defender was behind Parker and Defoe was free in the middle so i can see where the ref was coming from, but still a little harsh.

I just mentioned it for balance, Bolton weren't totally hard done by the ref. To be honest, I never thought I'd see the day when we score a setpiece against Bolton and keep a cleansheet. Perhaps we'll score from a throw in against Stoke.

Or kick a couple of Chelsea players into the goal with the ball.

Anyway, time to transfer Steven Taylor out of my Fantasy team...

Newcastle seem to have been fairly fortunate with injuries so far this season, but that's just turned around completely.
Very unlucky for them and disastrous for the poor bloke himself.

That's what I thought at first, but if you look at it again the Bolton defender level with Parker (Zac Knight?) had stopped dead before the tackle by Cahill. Parker unimpeded would have got to the penalty area first and therefore it was a goal scoring opportunity, especially as Defoe would have taken the ball off Parker and between them could have scored easily. Therefore the decision was correct.

Cahill's won his appeal over the red on Saturday. Understandable really.

Does his ban get applied to Luiz instead?

I'd hope not, Luiz being in the Chelsea team can only help us stay in 3rd.

Does it now count as a yellow or nothing?

That's a little bit silly it was a nailed on yellow.Think they should look at the rules there.

I think it's a bit picky to give him a yellow on his record when he already missed 70 minutes of a match for a red card that was judged to be incorrect.

I agree that in this case it would be silly to give him a yellow, but picture this.

A player is 1 card short of a ban, and commits a similar foul to the one Cahill committed on Saturday (i.e. nailed on yellow card, but not a red) He gets sent off and the red is overturned. That team's next game may be a massive relegation 6 pointer at the end of the season which the player can now play in when he should be banned for reaching 10 yellows.

I don't think that's fair on the other team.
