On Twitter VdV is saying he will miss the Germany game but it's only minor and he hopes he won't be out long

It seems as though this a bit of weakness that VDV has which he knows how to manage. Let's hope he returns quickly.

An earlier comment mentioned the 1971 LC Final with Spurs coming out winners.
I can still see those Villa fans(ladies) crying out loud and hugging each other outside Wembley after the game.

Mind you. There's been many a time I wanted to cry to,after watching our Spurs, sometimes.

I think the worst defeat i ever saw was 1962 v Benefica. We should have put them away, then taken care of an overaged Real Madrid team in the European Cup Final. But it wasn't to be.......

    SPURS TEAM NEWS:

Joe Jordan says Rafa van der Vaart 'has a chance' of facing Aston Villa on Monday.

The in-form forward suffered hamstring irritation in Holland's friendly against Switzerland on Friday.

Rafa was back in training at Spurs Lodge on Wednesday and speaking at a pre-Villa press conference this morning (Thursday, November 17), first team coach Joe was certainly hopeful that he would be available to face Villa.

"Rafa trained on Wednesday and from what the medical team are saying he's at 75 per cent," said Joe.

"That's good, but we have to get him from 75 per cent to 100 per cent, we'll have take it day to day and we do have a few days with the game on Monday.

"He's got a chance, but it is important that there is no recurrence of the injury.

"This morning is important as we'll get the players back out there again and we'll have players with varying degrees of fitness. Luka, for example, played two games for Croatia, other players played once. We'll get them out there again and monitor them.

"The other lads are progressing nicely. Vedran Corluka is okay, he played in the first game for Croatia and was suspended for the second game.

    "We have no major doubts."

Niko Kranjcar (thigh), Danny Rose (ankle) plus longer-term Michael Dawson (Achilles) and Tom Huddlestone (ankle) remain out.

Good news Ensil, but I would've liked it to have been kept from Villa.
The more alternatives that they'd have to prepare for the better.

Great news about VDV, while I agree players shouldn't say things like that on Twitter, it's wonderful to hear it.

I think Villa would have guessed it was VDV or JD they were facing, and I doubt they would change their team whichever one actually starts, presumably VDV.

My mate at the Lane, said the rumour is that Defoe starts. VDV back on the right and 2 up top.

I guess we'll find out in a minute.

According to the Beeb, Cuellar and Hutton will be on their right to double up on Bale :(

If he gets through this unscathed, I'll be shocked.

Defoe rumour was bollocks. Shame really.

Line up: Brad Friedel; Benoit Assou-Ekotto; Younes Kaboul; Ledley King; Kyle Walker; Aaron Lennon; Luka Modric; Scott Parker; Rafa Van der Vaart; Emmanuel Adebayor. SUBS: William Gallas; Giovani Dos Santos; Jermain Defoe; Sebastien Bassong; Carlo Cudicini; Sandro; Steven Pienaar

That was c+p'd from the OS, hence the listing of only 10 players starting. Bale is starting, I can confirm <doh>

Villa start with only 2 recognised midfielders, one of which is a utility player who's also used in the defence, mainly at right-back.
    Unorthodox.

Not sure who's playing on their left wing.
    Heskey? Agbonlahor?
Might be a good idea to feed Lennon a lot of the ball and see if he can isolate Warnock.

Central midfield is for the taking.

Talking to 'Arry(great to see him back) just now they were talking about moving Bale over to the right to scupper their attempts to triple mark him. I say let them try and stop him on the left. Modric will make mincemeat out of the rest of that midfield.

    Exactly, SF.
    Why change things?
Just let the other midfielders do their thing and force Villa to change their tactics.

Just seen this on the Beeb ticker: "Heskey to play the David Silva role feeding Bent and Agbonlahor..." <laugh>
