I don't understand, you accept Ferrari as a success in 2000 but are not giving him a chance in Mercedes, patience is required it took him 5 years to develop Ferrari, has it been 5 years in Mercedes? No. He is being arseholed in Quali I accept this, but he has the passion to race himself out of his seat, yet there has been no uproar of allowing a rookie race in Button's seat. Button is being out-qualified by Hamilton, Massa with Alonso, Webber with Vettel..... Is it clouding your vision because Mercedes is not a front row team? does this influence your decision?
Does Schumacher have 5 years? No. Is the situation the same as at Ferrari? No not really. Is Schumacher the same driver he was in 2000? No. I did not really put much emphasis on the quali record, I said where it really matter in the race Rosberg is beating him 8-3.
How do you know Schumacher does not have 5 years? Has he retired because he has felt uncomfortable driving a 220mph car yet? He is perfectly comfortable where he is, until he complains that he can no longer drive an F1 that first sentence of yours is invalid, actually..you have based your post on your own opinion, which doesn't really reflect the views of millions that watch the sport. This is like the thread Hamilton vs Button, pathetic.
I can see that this discussion it at an end because you are starting to take it personally and getting off topic, so I will not carry on.
All I said is that opinions on him retiring are subjective and does not reflect the views of all the people, he has only been in f1 for 1.1/2 years, not really enough to base an opinion on him retiring.. Where have I been personal? Carry on mate.
Until someone smashes his records Mifune.. then he should stay on the grid. Why should a 7-time champ move over for a rookie who has no idea what he is doing.. does not make sense.
So you are saying it is fine for him to coast on past glories? When is the cut-off point then? Seeing as it is unlikely that anyone will beat his records are you saying that it would ok that he was still on the grid when he was 60 just because nobody had beaten his records? He should be judged on current merit not his history and if he is judged like that then it is my opinion that he does not deserve or justify his seat at Mercedes. Schumacher is selfishly taking up the Mercedes seat by using his past achievements to buy him the seat, it will not benefit him in anyway, it may give him some fun but that is it, he has had his career. The seat that Schumacher is taking up could be used by another driver who are trying to develop their career and instead are stuck in a crap team or no team at all because Schumacher is bored of retirement.
Manny, you are looking on him now as if he has never driven an F1 car before. Poeple will form opinions of new drivers who have been in F1 for 1 1/2 years, let alone someone who has been in F1 since 1991. The fact he has not come back and blown Rosberg's doors off clearly shows that :- a) He has lost the egde you need to be great or; b) he was flattered at Ferrai by team orders, a dominant car, and suspect FIA decisions It was clear through 2006 that he was slowly losing the edge as Massa was getting very close and starting to beat him fair and square at times. Come on mate, he was the most successful driver of all time. But if he is just doing it to enjoy it, then he needs to step aside. Or, raise his game and start showing his teammate who the no.1 German really is.
Maybe he should go to DTM? Good close racing, lots of coverage and can still work with Mercedes? Can also have another punch-up with Coulthard too and get taken out by his brother!
My agreement with you ends there. Qualifying will probably stay as it is, so therefore I expect to see Michael behind Rosberg at the start but who is here to say Schumacher does not drive well in a race? I really don't understand why people are not flailing around because Barrichello is still on the grid... The Mercedes is not a winning car, and because of this he is not going to acheive wins this season, hence the reason he gained nothing last season accept some 4th place finishes. Rosberg gained some podiums, yes it may be more than Schumacher, but it's not a massive gap, same goes for Qualifying... is Michael really that far behind his younger team mate as we are making out? He has had scrappy battles this season, but does losing his front wing a couple of time justify a retirement? With his cons come his pros, he has gained the highest result for Mercedes in a race (where positions gain points), he has gained the highest number of proper overtakes, Did anyone forget Malaysia? Schumacher picked up the only 2 points for Mercedes...Why didn't Rosberg gain anything? He has justified his need to get scrappy because he is pushing for grid position, if he laid back and relaxed wouldn't people be on his back because he (is not passionate about driving)? The thing is he has gained the accolades in his life, because he has given 110% to his sport and improving the structure of F1 and it's safety concerning drivers. He pushed the boundaries of greatness to the edge by putting his own reputation on the line, as he is doing now. A relationship with a team does not last a fortnight, is lasts a handful of years, for many reasons... 1) To build up bonds with the team members. 2) To develop the car around both drivers and to match their specific needs. 3) To gain an understanding of the teams abilities now and in the future. 4) And to supply the knowledge needed to build the team up and up. It's just damn dramatic that Schumacher's results are allowing people to think he should step aside. He has made fantastic starts and maneuvers in both dry and wet conditions and in one situation (like Rosberg) was capable of a race win!, he feels comfortable in the situation he is in, unlike other drivers he does not moan and give stick to the team and it's engineers like other WDC's and their massive egos at present. New drivers have around 23 other seats to take if they can prove they are strong enough... Webber-Massa-Button, have been beaten by their teammates consistently should they go? There are plenty of Rookies that have gained spots over the past couple of years, what do we want? A grid full of novices? There are only about 3 veterans in the sport, so we want them out too? At the moment he is still within the top 10 drivers in the world, and that at 42 years of age with exceptional mental capabilities of ignoring his critics (who have gained nothing) and to race drivers with half his age and reaction times is something out of this world. So I believe people should let him be and hang out a bit in Mercedes and see how it goes over into the last year of his contract, his return from my point of view has been bait to a whole lot of piranhas hunting for juicy gutter-prone bitching about his (bashing from Rosberg).. Let Rosberg achieve 7 World Championships in a sport that changes vastly every year.. then tell Michael to give it up. Rant over. Thank-you. Good article Forza! I can agree with your point, Jarno has had his day and really he should go at the end of this season. He is complaining about this power steering to much and really it has been fixed so if he doesn't start beating Heikki, then I won't buy that excuse.
totally agree. They have too many good team members and designers to fail for a 3rd successive season. I smell a championship challenge next year.
You have to remember, he's the wrong side of 40, and was out of the sport for 3 years. It takes time to adjust to the new rules, and the new cars.
You know, I respect Schumi now, never liked him before. He came back, busted his own myth and he's sticking with it where others would have given up. I think he's an exception among the veterans and has earned the right to continue, unlike Trulli, who's just hanging on from what I can see.
I like this new schumacher. Because he's here of his own accord, he seems to be enjoying himself, and subsequently, he always seems cheerful now. The old schumi would never wave to the camera etc.
He sometimes blows kisses and does some wierd rock on dude sign with his fingers, wierdo lol.. but seriously he is enjoying life, and good for him.
